I know it is late and hopefully something has been done, but she can check with the local humane society if they have one, I would think they would take care of it for her.

Now I realize the cousin is a child, I would opt for the humane society myself..

BUT that being said.
I have had to put mice down or "pre-kill" mice to feed to snakes.

I would take it to the humane society and just point blank tell them I cant afford to put her down, and I cant let her suffer, please help me! They will here.

Not really..used this method before. Place the mouse in a toilet paper roll, hold the tail at one end and be sure to shoot in a soft area of your yard...one with no rocks.
