Hard Tumor, Clumped Feather Thing on Fern's Chest

I am glad your EE is doing better. I just could not put that kind of money in to my birds. I do love them but I just don't have the funds for something like that. I do, however, have a chicken living in my kitchen. Not on purpose. She was sick in August and it took quite a while to get her better. Why she is still alive no one knows. She almost died 3 times. The bird is still here. Amazing. Eventually she will go back outside but I've noticed she goes down hill if she spends to much time alone. Not sure what to do about that. The other chickens attack her. This is why she is in the house. Besides, she is not use to the weather anymore.

Good luck with your hen and speedy recovery. BTW, I don't have a diaper on my chicken. I have a small portable little kennel, I made a low perch for her and I place her on those puppy pads. Now I get the pads for adult beds. They are a bit cheaper and much longer. I place those on top of old towels. Her food is on the wire door of the kennel. Works pretty good. Although, my bird can't see very well. I think she is blind and come to know the kitchen by feel.

Those house birds grow on ya dont they? I really miss my roo CHarlie that had no feet and lived in the house in the winter and in deluxe accommodations outside in the summer. She might just be your "house chicken" for the rest of her life. Hey, folks have weirder stuff than chickens for pets...I hope she continues to do well for you! Terri O

crj, do you have another chicken that you could bring in to keep her company? most likely if she's blind she'll never be able to live with the rest of the flock.... it's great that you've taken such good care of her...

Tonight is Fern's last night inside. She, Virginia and Fancy Pants (my winter molters) are going back in the coop tomorrow after they free range around the yard with the rest of the flock (in the crusty, melting snow). Pictures will be taken.

Thats great that the girls are ready to join the flock again.. you'll probably have" empty nest syndrome " Congratulations on being such a good chicken mommie.
