Help. Staples keep popping out of the hardware cloth.
What staples was I supposed to use??
I ended up putting some trim on the really problematic areas, but I’m thinking they gave us the wrong staples 🙄

I do not use staples for this very reason. Any staples you use will eventually rust or loosen with time.
You can find fender washers on Amazon or at a hardware store. These, along with deck screws, work great.

You can use fender washers and screws as @janiedoe suggested or get 3/4" long poultry staples that you hammer in. I tacked my HC up with pneumatic staples then went back over it all with the poultry staples.
You can also secure the seams by screwing a board centered down over the joint.

Which staples did you use? There are a lot of different options out there, some you hammer in individually and some that can work with a powerful stapler. And what wood are you stapling into? A heavy post, 2" thick lumber, or paneling? You don't want the wood to split. You need to match the staple to the job.

Some people attach hardware cloth with fender washers and screws. I prefer a furring strip if appropriate. Take a strip of wood maybe 3/4" thick and 1-1/2" to 2" wide and place that over the edge of the hardware cloth. Screw it into place with the screws going through a hole in the hardware cloth. If you clamp it down tight the furring strip should hold it but with the screws going through holes it is not going anywhere. An advantage to the furring strip is if you cover the cut edge of the hardware cloth you will not scratch yourself on those sharp edges. A furring strip will not work everywhere though.

The correct staples to match the wood can work well but there are a lot of different options available. Some work a lot better than others.

I use a combination of both staples and screws/washers. I use narrow 1 1/2" narrow crown staples and a pneumatic stapler to install. I also use fender washers and screws to help reinforce everything. Never had an issues with the staples popping out (Furniture is often assembled using narrow crown staples.)

If you use something like T50 staples, you are likely to run into issues.

Good luck,
Dale
