A little disappointed that the Urban dictionary doesn't explain the origin of the phrase, just gives plenty of examples of use. You are right that it is probably not PC but we will run out of expressions that we can use soon for fear of offending someone. They need to develop an "edit" app for us so that whatever we are about to say can be modified by the app before it comes out of our mouth... or we type it. Surely this PC thing has gone too far now and a modicum or common sense needs to be applied!

I totally agree Barbara! Out and out rudeness I don’t agree with but the PC of language now has gone mad!

Reading some other dictionaries of slang words also sheds no light on the origins of it either :idunno

I’m getting a flag out!!

Had a lovely ride out this morning on Harry. Well behaved, calm and overall a good boy! We did encounter a hot air ballon though! The video doesn’t do it justice but it was a lot closer than it looked!

Oh well done you! And what a glorious morning! I've been up in a hot air balloon. They are amazing! There was a guy in the village here that did commercial flights. I was really apprehensive about it but it was wonderful and quite thrilling coming back down.... essentially you do a controlled crash landing! This was us

I have, at long last, had mine shod up, but unfortunately I have MeMe lame again. It's a hind hoof again but the opposite one from a few weeks ago. The farrier dug a huge hole as deep as he dared but disappointingly it didn't spurt. I've been hot pouticing both before and a few days since he dug the hole. You could just smell the infection over the top of that damp sweaty hoof smell :sick (I'm sure you know what I mean) when I changed the poultice yesterday and she seems a little more comfortable but there was nothing obvious to see as regards drainage considering that she was hopping lame.... you kind of expect there to be a decent amount to make them that sore!
I was also up half the night with Reb who had an upset tummy at bedtime. I almost always check my ggs around 11pm before I go to bed. He wasn't bad enough to get a vet out but he was clearly not right and didn't want me to leave. Thankfully he settled eventually but I'm physically and mentally shattered mostly because it was such a close call with him colicking 2 years ago and the same time of year..... there must be something in the grass at this time of year that triggers it.
I think Ian may be getting the message that I find it boring being a passenger all the time..... he let me drive Zak lastnight! It started out that he needed him long reined down to get his exercise cart from the repair garage and Ian struggles to walk far, so any longreining is my job..... I actually really like long reining and Zak is so light and responsive he is a pleasure to drive. I drove him back up to the farm on the cart whilst Ian followed in the car and then he climbed in with me and we took him for a little jaunt to see how the cart went. It was quite funny because at one point Ian tried to snatch the reins from me because Zak broke into a canter going up a steep hill. I was totally in control and I've sat in the passenger seat plenty of times when he has let Zak canter up that hill and far worse, when we have actually had accidents or run away horses, so I like the fact that he got a taste of his own medicine a bit!;)

Think that is all my news for now..... was thinking of you yesterday as I planted out my peas.... I know how you like to eat garden peas! Hope Keeper is continuing to improve. Enjoy the fabulous weather this bank holiday weekend and don't work too hard.

Best wishes

Barbara X

Wow @rebrascora you are a braver woman than me going up in one of those things! The thought of not being in full control scares me! I’m so glad you enjoyed it though and that’s a great pic :) When we got back to the farm it had apparently gone over there really low and the burners scared the horses that were out in the fields and the hard as nails German shepherd guard dog ran off! I said to my friend that I’m glad we were not just getting on when it went over! Glad we were up the other end of village :bow

They had a really good grooming session too when I put them back out. I don’t seem to be making headway with getting the hair out so Bran is helping me!

Have you managed to have a catch up on sleep? How is MeMe and Rebel now? That’s a scare after his episode before. Such a shame nothing is coming out of that foot of MeMe’s. Crikey the spring and better grass has something to answer for! I’m quite sure it changes horse in the head and gut! Harry is barely eating any hard feed at the moment, picking & poking at hay/haylage too. The grass is coming through well though and I’ve been leaving him and Bran out on a night. Think they are just munching all night!

Good to hear Ian got a bit of his own medicine back ;) Fancy him trying to take the reins back! Hope you slapped his wrist  A bit of kettle calling frying pan if you ask me when he’s let Zak go up the hill in canter! As always seems to be case one rule for them and another for everyone else!

Keeper is good thank you, no more set backs (touch a massive piece of wood!) Although Charlie has gone on a school trip to London this weekend so he’s missing him. He keeps going to his bedroom door & scratching to go. Keeper is feeling the urge to check if he’s sneaked back without him knowing so does a check and heads back out.

Peas, peas, peas...... :drool Delicious fresh out the pod!

I sure will try to not work too hard, Tuesday will be bad though as not delivering Monday so double. My forecast for parcel numbers is 140 :thI’m dreading Tuesday already!

Enjoy this weather  xx

Hi Kim

Lovely to see your guys grooming and Keeper enjoying a swim, especially when it is free! Perfect for cooling off on a scorching May Day!
Pleased to report Reb is fine and MeMe seems to be fully sound again although I will be dry poulticing for 2 more days. Trying to decide if I should try to pack the deep hole the farrier dug as it is certain to get filled with gravel and debris as soon as poultice boot is off. I have some Keratex hoof putty somewhere but I've never been overly successful at getting it to stay in.... there is probably a special technique that I haven't acquired. Can't decide whether to try with that or some cotton wool and Stockholm Tar or try to melt some wax into it or leave it open. The bankside where they will be going back out to graze is steep so she will be digging her toes in and I have no doubt it will get packed with dirt if I don't do something. Or I could open out the hole so that it is more of a crater than a shaft, but that means paring back quite a bit of sole which may make her tender. Argh! Decisions, decisions!
Finding it way too hot out there today and I have manure to deliver and garden to dig.
Went to see my sister having a Western Riding/Dressage lesson on Jack yesterday and was blown away by how fantastically he was moving. It was a full day group lesson but the other girls had all dropped out before the last hour because they were shattered being out in the baking sun, so she got an hour of private lesson in the end. Can't believe how focussed he was at 4pm when they had been working since 10.30am and Jack is not an easy horse to get to concentrate. It was quite technical and subtle but works on training the horse to carry himself rather than forcing him with restrictive tack and training aids. Jo has been quite focussed about doing schooling with him and has access to both indoor and outdoor school at her livery yard but this was only her second formal lesson, which made it even more impressive. Never thought he would be capable of moving like that! It was just WOW!

Well I have cooled off enough to go back out there and do a bit more work. Hope you have a relaxing 2 days before manic Tues and that your 140 deliveries all go smoothly. X

Hi Barbara!

Good to hear they are both doing ok, is this still the case? Did you come up with a solution for MeMe and her hoof hole? I did once see these pad/rubber things that are for stopping snow balling up in their feet, I was wondering if something like that may help? I can’t for the life of me find it now that I want it though!

I’m getting another flag out, shock horror!

I got out on H yesterday but no one else wanted to come with me so we took Bran with us and did ride and lead. Pleased to say they were both well behaved and we had a pleasant hack round the little block. Glad we went early though as its been baking here the last few days.
Another warm one today which I could have done without, I have baked in my van today! Got frazzled when out of it. Not quite as bad on numbers but still had 111 deliveries to do. Plus I missed a couple and had to double back, head was a shed, was hot, flustered and just wanted to get home!

Sounds like Jack and Jo had a fab lesson, don’t you fancy giving it a go? Sounds like it could be Jack’s thing if he was focused all day. Harry has the attention span of a gnat! Been donkeys since I had a real riding lesson!

Hope you have not frazzled too much yourself the last few days!

This delivery job is getting ridiculous!!! :tongue

Today should have been quieter after the extra from bank holiday Monday yesterday! I was forecast 58 today but ended up with 120!!! How do you get that so wrong?? I tell you the company is hopeless! No wonder couriers are leaving left, right & centre :barnie

Sorry I will get off my soap box
