UrbanMama, I don't think you should be apologizing for anything.

Heaven knows I've thought about trying to hatch some local fresh eggs! There's nothing wrong with it, IMO. People who are selling the eggs should be very well aware of that possibility, and most sellers are, I'm sure, and it doesn't bother them. Now you've got me thinkin' of getting an extra dozen next time and seeing what I can hatch!

UrbanMama, you are so sweet

You had no ill intentions at ALL!! That is what Katy is talking about...nothing at all to do with you and your little experiment...and I can't wait to see what happens.

I, personally, have taken eggs out of the refrigerator to hatch and had a successful story. I hope you do too and we can't wait to hear about what strange creatures hatch from those eggs...just some leghorns..or maybe something very interesting

Keep us posted!!

Right or not right, there have been many people on here that have gone to "farm stands" and tryed hatching them !! Good luck !!

Yup. Didn't plan it that way, but I had just put a bunch of eggs in the incubator, and that day, the egg lady delivered at work (before mine were big enough to lay). So, when I got home, I looked at the eggs and the bator-- and tossed in a half dozen. 4 hatched- I believe all are still in the barn-- 2 looked like the RIR's that hatched at the same time, and 1 got taken by a 'coon.
I'm thinking of doing that again next spring

Edited to add: Don't feel bad one little bit. You bought them, they're yours. Do what you want with them. Eat them, sell them, hatch them or hollow them out and paint them bright and hang them out front on Easter

And they were worth the extra $.

I did do this once, NOT from Katy. The first time I used my homemade bator, I bought 5 doz eggs from a farmer, I got 5 chicks. 3 were boys. Karma maybe? I will add that I DID try to talk to them first, but they didn't answer the door (they have their eggs out in a fridge oustide and it is on the honor system.)

I guess technically maybe I did it twice. I was at a sale in KY and I asked the seller if they were fertile, BEFORE I bought them, he told me yes and that I could probably get some good chicks from them.

ETA...Shucks, maybe I did it with my last hatch...No, she charged me extra because she knew I was hatching them, she told me that she and her husband got me the best out of 9 doz for 2 doz eggs. 23 beautiful blue and one pink. I almost had myself convinced they were Ameracaunas until I saw that lone pink.....Cute chicks tho.

Man, it looks really bad for me, I have only done 3 hatches.
