Hatch with me! Placed in bator on 5-13-2010. First hatch!

I couldn't wait any more, so I candled my 25 eggs....I for sure have 7 bouncing chicks, but the others were so darn dark that all I could see is a partial dark egg. I have what I think is a clear egg, but it's also tinted but no real dark area. The veins on the seven were excellent!! I already have a half + dozen Delaware eggs being delivered sometime in the first week of June...I'll be so happy to candle light brown/cream eggs again!

Input on your candling so far? Any more bouncing chicks?

Hello there I would like to join.

I set 8 blue orpingtons on the 13th. We have the same due date. This is my second hatch and I am using my brinsea eco 20. It treated me well my first hatch. My first hatch I had 24 shipped eggs and 9 chicks hatched.

The chicks are doing well they are a couple wyandottes, 2 golden polish, 2 blue-splash marans, 2 bc marans, and one blue orpington. My little orpington is not blue looks like he will be white I hope at least a splash. So anyhow talking about candling. I know I over candled my first hatch. I just could not stop. I am controlling myself this time, well almost. I was not going to candle until lock-down, but I did on day 7. All eggs are developing!

Thanks again tazcat70 for the excellent packing job and fertile eggs.

You have to remember we have oily hands which are not good for those developing eggs. It is just so addicting. Good luck to all the

When we candled we brought the entire room up to 97 (highest we could get it) and the humidity to 50% with the shower (the bathroom is connected to the bedroom where the eggs are)
We also sterilized the candler with an alcohol wipe then wiped it down with a clean damp washcloth. We used the cool-lite candler so we did not take the eggs out of the egg turner to candle. We worked quickly so core temp would not drop. I had my hubby monitoring the thermometer which was sitting on the empty space on the egg turner.

Haha! This time I controlled myself from candling by turning them more, I have 18 who are in the bator Egg Carton Style then 19 more outside the incubator until I get 40 stored to fill my next incubator. I'm in day 5 and haven't candled this batch yet. I'm going to tonight or tomorrow. But i'm not doing then at the same time. maybe 6 then close the incubator, go back and 2-3 hours do another 6, etc.
I'm excited!!!

It sounds like you are taking lots of precautions AshleyFishy . I'm not saying not to candle I just think I might of affected my first hatch by over candling. You sound like you are thinking thing through. I hope you have a good hatch.

I'm just hoping any of them hatch! This is my first and I would really like a few fluffy butts for my efforts

I figure the less I am in the equation the better their chances are. Before I placed them in the bator I made sure to sterilize the egg turner with hot water, I degreased my hands and rinsed them several times to get anything off of them. I thought about using latex gloves but I thought that powder coating that is on the gloves might clog the pores so I opted not to wear those.

I let the eggies rest when they arrived..in a closet which is attached to the bathroom...it stays a nice even temp with a little humidity. They were in well vented, sterilized plastic egg cartons. (sterilized in hot water)

I will only be using animal safe cleaners also, after they hatch for the brooder. Which we already have because of our chinchilla, he can not be around household cleaners at all. We have to use natural cleaners through the house

I think that pretty much sums up being a momma hen.

I've been very careful since this year for the farm all the eggs are hatching in my room so I've been going around the outside of the incubator and around with those clorox cleaning wipes since I don't want any bacteria getting into it. HOPEFULLY next year the eggs get to incubate in the brooder house i'm gonna build after my silkie pen.

Good luck to us all!
