Hatching buddy for setting 8/4?

Well today is the official day one of my latest batch of eggs. we have a total of 36 eggs that we put in the incubator yesterday, they are complete surprise eggs. they are not marked as to what they are or the type of roo they are from. SOOOOOOO it is very exciting to see what I get at hatch.

I have been having so much trouble with my hatches do to infertility or what but these are from a trusted breeder that I know hatch their own chickens so I am sure that I will get something.

Here is what we have:

5 Dark brown eggs

7 Light brown eggs

17 Beige eggs

7 green eggs

So you can get a clue as to what I have, but it will be interesting to see what they look like due to mixing.

So we have fingers crossed for a really good hatch this time since we lost our silkies.

I am using a LG still air as well MommaBugg. My first batch 6 hatch but 3 died with 6 in egg death. second hatch 27 silkie eggs 100% failure

third try 7 Delaware, 3 Orp, 3 silkie, At day 5 all looked like total duds as if I went to grocery store bought eggs and incubated them.

Now I am on some eggs from a guy who raises and breeds chickens so this should have better outcome for me.
Thanks all,
Pookie

I set my eggs last night. This will be my first hatch too. I've got a hova bator genesis 1588 with circulated air and auto egg turner.

I've got lots of bantam cochins, polish, bantam RIR cross, cuckoo marans, wheaten marans, blue andalusians, black sexlinks, golden lakenvelder, welsummer, easter egger, and blue laced red wynadottes

I'm having a problem with the temp. The incubator is supposed to be preset at 100* but the thermometer that sits in the incubator is reading 101*. The instructions said to disregard the little thermometer unless the hatch goes wrong and then you just adjust for the next hatch. But I don't want to risk my eggs though. I went ahead and adjusted the switch that would lower it by 1/2 to 1.5 degrees. Hopefully this will be a little closer to where it needs to be.

Well, looks like we all made it thru day 1.....lol. I lost count of how many times I checked the temp and humidity. I bought the Brinsea because it was supposed to be a "set it and forget it". It has held the temp and humidity very well so far. I am pretty good at candling so hopefully I will be able to tell if anything is happening by the 7th to 10th day. This is the Roos first breeding as he is only 5 months so I hope he was at full power and the hen also. They are 5 and 6 mos. old. This could be a complete failure but at least I will have learned something. She gives me 1 egg about every 3 days. This is going to be fun for all of us since we are all fairly new to incubation. My attitude for this is "expect nothing but hope for success".
I envy all the different breeds you guys have. How do you have room for all of them? I have a variety of breeds but like just one or two of them and I had a bunch of them go broody, broody, broody. I only had one white silkie roo so anything I would let them hatch would automatically be 1/2 silkie. I tried 2 hatches......one was white silkie to white silkie and the other was banty EE to white silkie. I got only one baby out of each hatch that made it but it was a very good learning experience. Now have a banty buff Brahma roo and possibly another roo or 2. Too early to tell for sure. I will re-home them when I know for sure. I did not let them hatch any more because I knew I wanted to concentrate on the Seramas.
It is way to tempting to try all these different breeds! I just love so many of them but at least I do not think I will have to be ordering hatchery chicks any more.
How is everyone else's day going?

im deffenatly joining!!! thanks for answering the question!!!!! and i am excited to send pictures and see pictures from you guys! tootles!

I only actually have 6 or 7 breeds and only a couple of each. The rest of the eggs I have are from hatching eggs my neighbor gave me and I bought from okiehen. I'm bound to actually own a whole lot of different breeds since BF is building me a set up that will include 11 new pens plus a 20x20 "yard" in the middle

Oh my gosh......11 pens.....sounds great!
Update: My little girl gave me another egg today so I slipped it in the bator to make a total of 7. It actually could be the other little girl since she is 5 mos. now and the other one only gave me an egg every third day. Hopefully, I'll see!!

I'll join ya!

I have had some REALLY bad luck with my last few hatches... so this time, I moved my incubator to a different room (hopefully with more constant temps/humidity) and I'm lowering my humidity to 35%. I hope it helps. These are shipped eggs, and two were broken, so I KNOW the post office probably played soccer with them

Anyways, I put in 10 speckled sussex, 8 black copper marans, and 4 golden polish. Here's hoping for a decent hatch this time!!! I haven't had good luck in MONTHS!

I'll join! Just set 13 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte eggs in my Hovabator Genesis 1588. I use dry incubation since we already have such high humidity here in South Louisiana. They are shipped eggs, so I will be thrilled to get half to hatch. Good luck everyone!

OK some questions:

I made a home made turner from an egg carton. I am wary of putting my BO eggs in for fear they may go in upside down. The eggs are dark, and round making it impossible to tell where the air pocket is. SO

I made a better candler out of one of my brooder lamps, an incandescent light blub inside an up-turned box witha hole in it. It works great as far as being able to see some promising little spots in the yolk forming.

Problem is I STILL cannot determine where the air sack is... Will it be the end that is slightly lighter in color or darker? Some of the eggs there is no distinguishing coloration in any area of the egg but the yolk. How important is the 'pointy side of the egg down' issue if there is no way to determine this? Should I just leave them on their sides?

ok.... i have a question you guys!

we (meaning I) just candled the 6 eggs for the first time today. i saw what looked like black spots in all of them! 2 from what i could see moved freely when i turned them! the othe 4 were bigger and more darker! what should i expect to see when candling them if they are fertile?! also i was looking at the biggest black spot of them all when all of a sudden i heard "peep peep churp churp!" so i held me breath (because i have athsama and thought i was weezing lol) and put the egg up to my ear! i heard it again. i was in a dark bathroom where there was no sounds! is that posible to hear cherping?! thanx!

oh i also took some pictures of rose (my broody) this morning before homeschool started. i am making a "time line" basically for you guys so you can see the whole thing!
