Hatching buddy for setting 8/4?

MommaBugg,

I am a newbie at this but sometimes i can find the air sac by slightly turning the egg when I candle it. if the egg is too round and i for sure cant see the sac i would say lay it on its side for a couple days and check for the sac again.

I know that coming from a newbie is not an actual perfect answer but that is what i have done. I have had some failure but most of the eggs I can at least get to day 18 before failure

so i am hoping for a better hatch this round.

I was under the impression that the air sac was always at the large end of the egg. My eggs lay in the bator on their side and are turned on their side so I guess for a round egg, it wouldn't make any difference if it lays on it's side.

Except she's using an egg carton made into a turner so they'll be up and down, not on their sides.

I would think it would be the lighter side since it should just be air and no kind of fluid, etc.

I guess I assumed they were on their side since she asked if she should just leave them on their side.

I didn't catch that. I guess she'd like to use the turner but if it's safer to leave them on their sides due to not knowing where the air sack is then she'll do that. lol. I'll go see what I can find on google bout Orp eggs.

ETA: All the pictures of orpington eggs I see on google don't look all that round to me. They look pretty normal. I just thought of this though: When you lay them on their sides and get eye level with them can you tell if one end of the egg is sitting higher up than the other end?

I know its weird.. I need to get some pics of them to post, I havent seen eggs like these before I have looked at them from all angles. One of the round ones I cooked was double yolk. I just wonder how viable they will be? Some of the BO eggs look normal , I just didnt get anything but round ones for the days surrounding the time I got the bator. They definately have growth in the yolk. I think I will just keep them on their side for now

And thank you both for answering me I have been askin this question for almost 2 days now

Also anyone know the hatch sucess rate of slightly cracked eggs? I know they say they can get bacteria, but has it ever hatched a healthy chick? I am so upset, because I had two of my 3 EE eggs in the bator show a crack once I got the better candler made. My only EE hen laid another this morning. If I set the eggs late (9pm) on the 4th is it too late to stick in in the bator?
