My experience with slightly cracked eggs is that it developed for a while, and then bacteria set in and it STUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought that when the eggs are laying on their sides, the small end is naturally pointing down. The air sac is supposed to develop at the big end. I think I have heard of a chick successfully pipping at the wrong end, but I wouldn't set them in a position where the air sac develops in the short end?

hey guys I need to know.. I found 2 bum EE eggs (have small cracks from curious beaks)I set the eggs late on 8-4.. Is it too late to replace one or both with eggs just laid today? Will it hurt anything if I stick it in with the rest?

my americauna eggs are in bad shape! some have cracks, loose air sacks, very porious, and i think they started to develop while shipping.

I just snuck another egg in yesterday and today. I do not know what to do with their eggs now. They are Serama eggs and I hate to waste them.

I didn't catch that. I guess she'd like to use the turner but if it's safer to leave them on their sides due to not knowing where the air sack is then she'll do that. lol. I'll go see what I can find on google bout Orp eggs.

ETA: All the pictures of orpington eggs I see on google don't look all that round to me. They look pretty normal. I just thought of this though: When you lay them on their sides and get eye level with them can you tell if one end of the egg is sitting higher up than the other end?

I know its weird.. I need to get some pics of them to post, I havent seen eggs like these before I have looked at them from all angles. One of the round ones I cooked was double yolk. I just wonder how viable they will be? Some of the BO eggs look normal , I just didnt get anything but round ones for the days surrounding the time I got the bator. They definately have growth in the yolk. I think I will just keep them on their side for now

And thank you both for answering me I have been askin this question for almost 2 days now

Also anyone know the hatch sucess rate of slightly cracked eggs? I know they say they can get bacteria, but has it ever hatched a healthy chick? I am so upset, because I had two of my 3 EE eggs in the bator show a crack once I got the better candler made. My only EE hen laid another this morning. If I set the eggs late (9pm) on the 4th is it too late to stick in in the bator?

I added eggs after i set the first group but make sure you mark it so that you know those might take a day or 2 longer to hatch.

i lost alot too out of 12 americauna i have 6 left and out of 11 silkies i have 5 left, and its not even lockdown yet!

I candled and have only 2 viable out of 9 but I don not think they were fertile eggs as it was the first group of eggs that they laid and the 2 that are still cookin are some of the last ones. I'll be thrilled for 2 to hatch. I've stopped the turner tonight and I hope by Thurs. they will hatch. I also stuck the next 7 eggs under my two broodies and all but 1 so far are developing. Those will be due Sept. 3rd so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
I'm sorry about your hatch but how far along were the quitters? Strange that they would all quit unless there is something wrong with the incubator. Did you open any to see how far they were developed?
