Hey all,
My female is constantly wanting to hatch eggs, but every time one hatches she ends up trampling the poor soul to death and then ignores the other eggs and they eventually dont make it. I haven't been able to acquire an incubator that I like for their tiny eggs so I normally just take the eggs before she can hatch them. But a couple of days ago I noticed that she was acting sneaky and when I moved some plants aside, there was a wobbly little bumblebee bumbling around and my heart broke. A, because it was cute and B, because of knowing that he wouldn't make it. Not even a day later I found it trampled into the ground with a broken neck and legs. I'm upset at myself for not noticing she had been nesting sooner. She also hid a small collection of eggs from me. I went to give them to my ferret and realized after cracking one open a little, that, despite being cold it was alive! I freaked out after I saw its foot move and wrapped it in plastic wrap. I know the chance that this wont work is a very high probability. But I have no idea what to do and there are two other eggs that she ditched. I have them in a glass dish with some family cloth (fuzzy flannel) on a heat mat from a tank. And then I covered it all with a blanket.
I'm shook about this whole ordeal and my hear breaks for the poor little ones.
How do buttons even survive as a species in the wild without the help of an incubator?
What are some tips on raising them without the sad end?
Thanks.
