My duck, Millie, has gone broody and been on eggs for 12 days, i candled the eggs for the first time today and 5 out of 7 eggs have babies in them. The only thing is, one of the eggs got cracked and i candled it to see if its still alive and im pretty sure it did not make it, but i want to be sure. Does it look dead to you? alive? The rest of the eggs seem normal and healthy and i can see the veins.

Hi pearl!! I can’t remember, did your ducks have problems with worms awhile back? How are they doing now?

Hey long time! I'd say bacteria got in through the crack and the egg isn't any good.

Congrats on the others!!

It has been awhile! Thank you, that is unfortunate but I am happy her other eggs are doing well, do you think the baby was developed enough to feel anything? My ducks and chickens share a coop and run and the chickens have been awful, they keep kicking Millie off her nest and that's the third egg they've broke!

You could crack it open and see. It didn’t look like much was developed though.

Hello! I've never dealt with worms but I've had issues with them having bumblefoot, maybe that's what you are thinking of? If so, they are much better besides one duck and two chickens that keep getting it severely. We are going to be moving our run out of our backyard and it's going to be close to our house just not in our backyard, the ground seems softer there so I'm hoping it will help.

I don’t think the egg was very far along either. I’d separate you Brody duck from the chickens though. They can be horrid to newly hatched duckling too :(

I always take the momma duck or chicken and the eggs to a large brooder when babies start hatching, I would never leave ducklings out there with those chickens, I know they'd kill them :( our coop is a decent size so I put food and water in there and locked the chickens out so she can't be disturbed

That must be it!
