I hear you. All I keep thinking is THIS is how I contribute to my family as a SAHM. I sell good quality hatching eggs and chicks. I've never really sold adults or bought them for that matter all because of biosecurity.

It's not just the money. It's that these are MY birds! Not someone else's. you can talk Jeanne/Davis etc till you're blue in the face but my BCMs are mine. I've been breeding and culling rigorously to get the stock I have. It's not the best by any means but I'm proud of them. They're part of this family. As are my favs ad OEs.

Still. Just going to keep a positive attitude and pray that everything will work itself out.

I totally hear you. My birds have to pay for themselves, since I'm bringing no income in, especially since I'll be starting school again soon and spending a ton of money there, plus buying a new house, building new bird pens, buying a mower, etc, etc, etc. It all adds up and we only have one income. If I lost everything because someone else was negligent, I'd be very upset. These birds, at this point, provide some money (it's kind of an up and down thing, seems like they about break even), provide food for my table (red meat is too expensive, and with no deer this year, all we have is the lamb we took to the butcher) and breakfast, as well as baked goods and the like. They may only break even on their own little budget spreadsheet, but they more than make up for it with everything else they add to the family. Not to mention, we've formed bonds with these individual birds, so even if I were to be given an entire new flock to replace this entire flock, it wouldn't make up for the tears from myself and my children! I'm praying with you that everything clears out and you don't lose anybody. I hope the bresse get a clearance on their health too, it's not their fault that they're sick. :/

Ay, I'm pulling for you. Are you getting eggs right now? If so since we are all being paranoid can someone else incubate a whole bunch for you just in case?

Gff is a hatchery with every complaint you have abut a hatchery. Including having so many orders to fill that they don't check on anything, breed for quality, or know every bird to now if its sick or not. Same problem with sandhill. They are just also farms so they have the problem of no customer service as well.

The reason they are popular is they are the only game in town for certain breeds. But they are not breeders IMO just Hatchers.

Betta, are you sure you make money on pol pullets? When I figured out feed and feed waste costs I decided it was a Loss to sell after 12 weeks. At least at what I can charge for my chicks vrs hens and loosing rooster sales. We do free range but the more chickens I have the less that helps.

Betta, are you sure you make money on pol pullets? When I figured out feed and feed waste costs I decided it was a Loss to sell after 12 weeks. At least at what I can charge for my chicks vrs hens and loosing rooster sales. We do free range but the more chickens I have the less that helps.

That is my biggest issue. I have trouble figuring out the bottom line. Does anyone use accounting software that helps? I am not in it for the money but still it would be good to have a better idea of what is going on.

So I've decided to do something different for my birthday this year. Earlier today I claimed 2 sets of chicks from CPL and 2 lucky swappers are going to get chicks in 2.5 weeks; right around my birthday!! I'm still working on who but CPL will be contacting you eventually!

I am constantly impressed by the group! I stalked for a long time before I got the courage to join because it just seemed too good to be true. In this world it is a rare treat to find such a group of honest and generous people...gives me warm fuzzies

Yeah but they are charging a breeders premium...which makes me expect better quality! I can buy some rare breeds at a hatchery for $10 and that is worth the risk...but when you are talking hundreds they better be near perfect.

I sent her in. Hoping to hear this week. The more I think about it the more I think she starved herself. So from now I'll be checking croups of all new birds. Because if that is really what happened I do feel like a chicken murderer. But I should know by next week. A br boy literally snuck in the garage and into he pen while I had the top open and was feeding the second pullet so he is in q now too. He is in love. I still can't figure out how he got in the garage however!
