Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

Oh gosh, now I'm nervous. My muscovy eggs show 6 of 9 with internal pips tonight. Incubator is now locked down, filled up the reservoir, come on duckies. I've never tried ducks before and have put a lot of clucking, pacing, misting, cooling, hand turning, weighing, calculating % weight loss, air cell monitoring, and praying into this batch for SUCH a long time (compared to chickens). I will just be crushed if these guys don't hatch, have been so hands-on with them. :) I've always used turners for the chickens and really don't mess with them much for the most part.

*wringing hands*...now how long? OK, going to go check them again.

Just remembered my second question - I'm getting request from people to hatch eggs for them. Do any of you do this and if so, how much do you charge??

ok so the guy with the White Ams I am bidding emailed me back and said that his breeders have slate legs. We will see, either way I hope I win. I really want some white ams.

So seriously, what in the world are we doing hatching all these chicks???? My husband is so going to kill me, I don't think he has a clue as to how many I actually have incubating right now....

Are you hatching your eggs for them, or just hatching eggs they bring you? I have not had anyone ask me to hatch their eggs...luckily they just want me to hatch some of my breeds for them. I wouldn't know what to charge, good question!

I am so glad my Dh is gone until April. I only he could see how many chicks I have right now and how many more are due to hatch.

Yep, took the drive all the way out to his farm IN THE RAIN. We are allergic to rain down here in Southern California, gives us uncontrollable bad driving. So it was quite the adventure to pick up the pair of Bresse. I didn't want to bid against you guys here aka the "chicken mafia" so I contacted him directly and he was nice enough to let me come out to pick up.

He has huge incubators, huge hatchers, and a really nice brooding room. What struck me as really nice was how quiet and content they were in the brooding room. No frantic chicks. Actually all of the chickens on his property were really relaxed. He selects for good personality too in his white bresse pen, he demonstrated by picking up the gigantic roosters and petting them. Freaked me out!

If I get a chance to go out there again I'll ask to take some pictures. It'll be in a long time though since I am now officially on chicken probation after I get those bantam araucana/basque chicks from CPL next month. I think the random assortment of 25 dutch bantams did me in on the husband good will.

Super nice guy x5000. Seriously.
