I'm thinking of ordering from Sandhill Preservation. I would like to get a couple of breeds that are new to swap but would like to make sure that there was some interest also.

I'm thinking about the Flame Jaerhon, Red Sussex, Redcaps, assorted Dorkings, and assorted Leghorns as they carry several cool colors including Black, Buff, Exchequer and Mille Fleur.

Would anyone be interested in eggs of the above? Let me know. I just have to convince hubby I really NEED to order these.

I'm ordering Dorkings because my shipped eggs only have 6 developing out of 30. I can't seem to get anything to develop that is shipped from that direction. I'm not sure what the PO does, but it is ugly between me and Ohio.

I have Exchequer Leghorns- LOVE THEM, want some more! Would love some Mille Fleur ones also

I dont know how SH is with their poultry, but I know on the waterfowl side multiple people had issues with them last year. No communication, no eggs shipped, multiple promises of ducklings with buyers frustrated and canceling orders and then fighting to get their money back. One order (made through their website) was claimed to never have been received. Even though the buyer had their auto response email and the paypal email as proof.

Skunks will hurt chickens... very much. We had a flock of about 15 pullets wiped out in one night by a skunk. They were sleeping on the floor and the skunk came in and sucked out all their brains. Just the brains - through their ears. It was gross. One survived - but it would walk sideways and always got tripped over, until one day somebody couldn't avoid it and it got stepped directly on. Get rid of the skunk. I used the smallest have-a-heart trap and drown them. No heart, I know - but if you had seen that pile of dead half grown chickens - you wouldn't let them have a chance either. They will also eat eggs - but that wouldn't have bothered me as much. If you drown them they won't spray - you might get a bit of residue in the water - but dump it out and cover it with dirt - it goes away.
One morning I noticed a whole had been dug under the barn wall. I heard chickens inside so I knew it was not total devastation, but I was not sure what I would find when I opened the door. To my surprise, there was not a single casualty. If figured whatever got in there was only after the food. The next night, I put a havaheart cage over the hole and caught myself a skunk. Yuk. Sounds like I got lucky, glad this skunk was lazy and was just as happy with eating out of the feeder instead of climbing up on the roosts.

I have buff leghorns pipping :weee

I don't have any buff chickens - well, besides salmon Faverolle- so I am excited.

I think I am going to keep throwing BCM eggs in the Bator every week. Come spring, I can get $7 a chick for them... And since fancy/rare breeds are in demand on the swap, I'll have better luck unloading them.

I've heard the same with their chickens. They rank up there when it comes to no communication.
