Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

I had more splash olive eggers hatch overnight, the third (small) set of eggs. So far running 100% fertility and 100% hatch. But these chicks are confusing me. I had a pen set up with splash ameracuana pullets and both splash and lav ameraucana cockerels. I replaced the am roos with a splash marans and started setting eggs. I did not wait three weeks. So I know these chicks could be either ameraucanas or olive eggers. I'm ok with that. These chicks are hatching splash and blue, as expected. However, why do the blue chicks have feathered legs? I thought splash x splash = splash, yet the feathering indicates the father is the marans. Any ideas? Can splash start out looking like blue?

to summarize, the chicks parentage can only be these possibilities:
lav am roo x splash am hen (should yield blue chicks)
splash am roo x splash am hen (should yield splash chicks)
splash marans roo (with feathered legs) x splash am hen (should yield splash chicks)

Wishing everyone in the NE well. Just heard about the blizzard warnings for the next 2 days! Saying it is expected to start around 11am today and be in full swing by 7pm tonight in places!!!!!!!!!

Okay I have a question. What would you do? I sent eggs to someone in southern Oregon. I sent 16 and asked her to keep me updated and gave lots of hatching tips. Didn't hear anything until recently. She emails me today and said that she didn't have any hatch. She said that she had two fully formed that pipped but died in the shell. She then said she had 14 clear

I guess I'm just unsure of what to say or do because I originally said I would replace any clear/unfertile but would like pictures of them which she didn't take. I've shipped eggs all over and have had good hatch rates. I personally get 80-100% at home. I guess I'm just a little wary when someone says that they've had 0% when following good hatching guidelines and claim to be. A pretty experienced hatcher. She's now asking about chicks or pullets. I guess I just don't know what to think. Any thoughts....comments?
I only had one hatch out of 14 eggs shipped to me so far...I figure it is just the time of year. somewhere in their travels they are getting too cold. them's the breaks.

Good morning, crazy chicken people! I had the neatest thing happen this morning -- sat down on my stool in front of the incubator to check eggs (they're on lockdown) and was looking RIGHT at a white orp egg from kraftyladies when it pipped. Like, PING! That was neat :) Woke me up WAY better than coffee! As of right now I have an orp, a lav am, a basque, and a blue silkie all with pips. I expect to see a lot more before the end of the day, and maybe a few chicks! Also means I have GOT to get the new brooder done today. Got it built yesterday, now I just have to wire.

The big 6 week olds spent their first night in the barn last night and were fine and chipper this morning. They've got a heat lamp and a tarp over the grow-out pen to keep it at least not too cold. Probably unnecessary but I am not risking my coronations! Next week I think I'll put the heat lamp on a timer so it's only on at night. The littler six week olds (silkies, serama, yokohamas) I'm keeping in the house a while longer -- they're quieter!

My three buff brahmas all look like girls! Ack -- first time I've ever had the "no roo" syndrome. I'll wait and make sure, and then think about how to fix it.

Also, my basque girl so far is totally white. Anybody with basques ever have that happen? Her roo is getting lots of pretty flecking and is a big, bold, handsome boy :)

Lilwanis, congrats!!! I'm so glad the interview went well!

AyeUp, personally I would replace eggs WITH EGGS on this order so long as she paid postage and in future would tell people at purchase that hatching eggs are not guaranteed except for damage upon arrival so long as they send you pictures of the damage eggs still in the shipping box, and chalk it up to "lesson learned". Sadly, there are people in this world who are MORE likely to walk all over you if you're too helpful. Luckily, not too many of 'em

Up early and got everyones food and water topped off. I'm thinking of crawling back under the covers for a few hours.

Thanks for the reminder of why I DON'T miss NH. Well, I do, actually -- just not enough to deal with the blizzards anymore!

I'm doing my first "parking lot" transaction later today -- a woman downstate raises buckeyes and I'm meeting her at 1:30 to pick up some eggs. I mean, I can't live in Ohio and not have buckeyes, can I? That'd be downright un-Ohioan

Good Morning Guys.

I am sitting in a McDs stealing their WiFi so I can actually use my computer to update things, like my phone, and my sons leappad. It is super exciting and taking way longer than I wish to sit in a McDonalds.

On another note, I am looking to do a side swap, eggs or PP... I am looking for good quality Salmon Faverolle eggs, and LF BBS Cochins. I might be interested in some bantam Cochins, either BBS or Columbian.

I only have black/blue dutch and black copper Marans laying right now. Will be getting Coturnix quail really soon. I actually collected two yesterday (woohooo :/) I will have Columbian bantam Cochins, black/birchen bantam Cochins, Salmon Faverolles, and BBS Ameruacanas in spring... I would prefer to send paypal if you aren't interested in current layers, since I am not enjoying owing people eggs in Spring.

I would like a dozen of each breed. Please message me if you have any to offer.
