I have a question..... I read you guy complaining about shipping prices and it should not cost that much really.... but I does... Do you guys know something i need to know? I had someone want some roos so I agreed to ship them. The Post Office said it would be $61.15 for 10 lbs is that insane or normal? She sent me a box and then backed out over the price. That is just what it was. Is it that much cheaper to ship from online? I thought it was just 16% savings max.

yep, put the chickens in there and then make hubby clean up the poo, since he was the one that spilled the feed to begin with...

I have to tell this story...I agreed to let a lady come by and try to sell us an air purifier. Free stuff and I could use one anyway, so why not? She called just now to set up an appointment. Usual shpeal about how great the product is, yada yada. She then asks some standard questions.
"Do you have any allergies?"
"No."
"What kind of vacuum do you use?"
"Filter."
Do you have any pets in the house?"
"Just the chickens."
"CHICKENS!?!?!???!??? In the house????"
"Yes, the babies are in the house."
"Oh."

I had a real hard time not spitting out my drink...

HA HA HA!!! And how was that NOT a selling point?

My turkey is doing great. I just moved him to the brooder with the chicks. I am amazed at how strong the little bugger was and how strongly he struggled to get away from being held. Fingers crossed that I get another. If not, do I need to go buy another poult at the feed store to keep him/her from being the only turkey until I hatch the BR from Aye?

Not worth the work to me. I don't grow out roos anymore either. I give them to the roo guy... he can do the fun parts of processing.

The ones we did process we slit their throat. We have put down chickens and we use a hatchet for that.. I just don't want to chase my meal down

that is why we used a killing cone when processing.

I am in a weird situation. I am a Christian, but I also have Native American roots. When I processed my first rooster last summer, I thanked him for giving his life that more life could go on. I thanked God that He has given us animals for food so that our lives can go on. It was a strange ritual to some, but it really helped me when I had to do it.
Me too with probably a WHOLE lot less Native American ...my grandmother 1/2 Cherokee ....I am 1/8 of course ...but I LOVE this idea...I just feel funny sometimes....I dunno. This might help! Thank you!

I have 12 blues for you here. The oldest is 5 days old. Do you want me to go ahead and ship or wait another day or two? It's your choice. If I ship tomorrow it probably will sit in the PO over the weekend at the rates it is taking to get to you.

You guys(gals) are a bunch of chatty cathys!! I have not checked this thread in only 2 days and there are over 350 POSTS!!!

I am not going to even try to catch up on that!

But any way I want to say how awesomely happy I am. I got my very first incubator chick tonight!!

Not only my first but my only BLUE Marans to even develop out of the 9 eggs I got.

on the fact that no other Blues developed but

that not only did this one develop and hatch but that is definitly BLUE!!!!!!! and not just light blue either but a beautiful dark blue

I hope it's a good roo but even if it's a henI want her anyway! I have another 14 Blue Marans eggs in there cooking so I am bound to get more!!Not to mention the other 6 eggs and 6 blue chicks in the spring! Plus I have a Splash Marans zipping?? not sure what it's called- it has a decent sized hole already and I geuss pipped around 4pm today with the other one just a little slower than the Blue. Benn waiting all day for these two they started to crack the shell early this morning but nothing happened until 4pm. Plus all the cuckoo Marans are rocking and rolling up a storm!! Wow those are some ansy chicks!

I have at least 24-28 eggs in there still that some may be an entire 24 hours before they pip do I leave these guys in there that long or should I try to take them out tomorrow morning(if there are no others piped anyway)??

Plus I can't believe what a miracle red cell is! I just wish I had thought about using it on my other sick chickens that died. It practically brought my Cochin hen back to life-she is such a fighter and yesterday morning was mostly in the grave- head curled up under her wing, shivering not caring that she was being touched(which she absolutley hates) barely moving gave her 1 cc of red cell and by last night was alert enough to nottice we were in the room turned herself around and everything. Today she pooped everywhere and even stared all the house cats down all day, wide awake, comb turned back to red even!!

If your chicken is anemic red cell is the way to go. At least now I know just wish my daughters poor chicken didn't have to be our learning curve.

Do you have one developing or are we talking future claim that should ship next week? I'd say get another if you don't have one hatching soon. They'll be VERY different in size at that point. If you have one developing from me then
