Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

Okay. This might sound like a silly question, but I hope someone knows the answer. With waterfowl, I get raising the humidity for lockdown since the mothers likely went for a swim right before. However, how does a broody hen raise the humidity when hatching? Is it just that she stops getting up from the nest and doesn't turn them and that keeps the humidity higher since they aren't exposed to dry air?

Yeah, I am just having a little bit of a panic attack when I lost another 2 this morning.  It has been about 1 or 2 every morning. They are all eating, chirping and looking healthy and happy running around.  Then I find them dead.  I keep worrying that I am doing something wrong or I should be doing something more for them, but they are in with my day old bantams and I haven't lost any of the bantams. Is there something more I should be doing for them?

I'm sorry you're still having losses from the PO fiasco. In addition to giving electrolytes and vitamins in the water, I give kefir (or yogurt if I don't have kefir) mixed with finely chopped scrambled egg and a few drops of agave nectar. It's worked wonders for me.

1/4 cup water
1 tsp gro gel, add more water as needed. I seem to always add more water after it is mixed

ALL FIVE LLO's ARE ALIVE...... DH should pull back in here shortly

Thank goodness for a positive outcome! It has been disheartening that so many have had such terrible shipping stories this week.

Since my son opened te hear pack I bought for the chicks, can you recommend a brand that I can buy at the store?

Im not sure, but it is definatly different. I have a broody silkie that was sitting in eggs that had been layed over a week. Once she decided she was "done" the temp adn humidity changed to chick temps. I think they may use their feather to make a seal or something? The eggs I pulled out, still under her, were cooler then they had been the day before, and it was less moist for sure.
here are the LLO in their stall for the day

Huzzah! I'm so glad they made it, all these sad chick stories this week have gotten me down. I too like to think people are helpful and not nasty...

Anyone have any tips for recurring wild bird lice besides de and invectmycin ( sorry about that terrible spelling) I have wild birds everywhere and they keep coming back. Its annoying as crap.
