Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

"Make" is such a forceful word.

I think it would be neat if the swapper offered PP if they're eggs aren't ready when they're "due".

Like, totally fictional here: say I claimed eggs in December, with the swap date of February. I check back in in Feb and the swapper says "such-and-such happened and my hens aren't laying right now, would you like to remain on my list or would you prefer $PP?" Then the swappee has the opportunity to choose to continue to wait. If I - as the swappee - have to say, "well, I want $PP then, since you can't send your eggs like you said you could" It sounds negative and accusatory. I would think the swapper would actually be relieved to be able to knock someone off their waiting list.

Just my opinion

That's works great where every body is mature and works with each other to fill swaps or make alternate arrangements. However, I've seen people swapping the same breed(s) as what's still owed to me. They promise to ship and I don't hear back. They promise to ship again, and again no eggs. But they're still swapping, and they're swapping for immediate shipping (i.e. tomorrow or next week). If they have eggs to swap, send me mine or send me PP. Why should my long outstanding swap have less priority than a new swap?

I think there is (or was) too much future swapping from birds not even hatched yet. Yes, someone admitted to me that they were swapping birds they didn't own yet, hadn't ordered yet, and didn't have any hatching eggs for yet. That is too far out into the future for my comfort. "Spring" should have been when existing laying hens got back to the business of laying, not "spring" when chicks finally grow up and start laying.

ok, off my soap box now.

No John you are not the only one wondering how long it will be before we start getting our spring eggs.... I guess they have until the first day of Summer (21 June I think) but it would still be nice to know how much longer we have to wait before we start seeing some eggs rolling in.....
For anyone that I owe Houdan eggs, they will be separated this weekend. Hopefully their laying will pick up. I am not consistently receiving eggs. I think only one of the two pullets is laying. Everyone that I have talked to confirms 10 months is not unusual for them. As soon as I can get three eggs under the 4 day age after they are pure I will send out.

If you want paypal instead of eggs, let me know. I am sorry that this has been a long process.

LOL Who kicked his hiney???

oh hey do you have room in the bator right now??
I am guessing Opossum. A dead one if I catch it...lol

I have one whole shelf empty! I know, WOW! LMAO. This is a first in a long time. I'll have another shelf empty by Saturday too.

and they are doing this on other sites as well

Like someone said above, I have a BIG investment in alot of my chickens. I think most people have been very generous with their swap offers, and no one should expect people not to sell their eggs unless their swaps are filled. Where else would anyone be getting 6+ eggs such as white bresse, ccls or even choc orps for $17 pp? I think we sll have been very generous in what has been offered up to swap.

This is why I am so picky about what I claim. I am offering eggs I'd get between $50-80 per dozen. I don't mind trading, I don't. But yes, people need to understand that in the end that those of us offering expensive eggs are losing our butts (and many of you have very, very expensive eggs). I am very thankful that I got CPL's Tolbunts, btw. She was very gracious and even sent me just Tolbunts even though I claimed a mixed egg swap. Those were one of those breeds that are 'way to expensive for me to buy'!

To help us keep up with what is owed from whom, would everyone please PM one of the moderators (of this thread, not BYC! - myself, madamwlf, CelticOaksFarm, kraftyladies, babymakes6, or crazypetlady) with a list of the post #'s for swaps you are owed? If you don't have the post#'s written down, you can find them here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Am7IlDTXygsBdGZ5Vi1ta0lFRmY4UHhiRGhYdHFpcXc&usp=sharing This spreadsheet covers from the beginning of the second thread (the one before this) until the beginning of March and is sorted by swapper name. Find your name and let us know which swaps are still outstanding. There are different sheets by date, on tabs at the bottom of the page. Please check all dates that you swapped.

In an effort to help facilitate things, if you let us know which ones you still want eggs for and a realistic date you are willing to wait until, and which ones you would rather have PP for at this point, we will pass on your preferences to filling swapper. This way, we can consolidate all requests in one place in the privacy of a PM. If all of you would do this ASAP, maybe we can help get some kind of plan of action in place. Thank you all for your patience and cooperation in this matter.
