I bet those would be a really popular item!

Not sure about the Seramas getting picked on since I've never had them, but I personally would be really nervous about letting such a tiny chicken free range unless it was like within a small fenced yard or something. Basically any bird of prey can carry them off.

Also the only hassle with having them mixed up is that then you have to wait like 4 weeks before you can be sure the eggs will be pure...

Yes, you can go 'correct' things.  BUT this is way more entertaining.  And, one doesn't even have to open a bottle of wine to get a bit giggle-y

Yeah, a lot of the time, I just hope for the best and think people will probably figure it out... But sometimes it is so rediculous, I have to edit it haha

Yes they say 3 weeks, but 4 to be on the safe side....

I believe so, but I haven't had my breed separated yet as they are not old enough to start laying yet. Anyone feel free to correct me pls! Maybe it is two weeks? I'll see if I can find something about it...

OK yes it looks like consensus is to wait 3-4 weeks to be sure eggs are pure.

Bugger...If I put the Roos on lockdown, I guarantee the husband will object. He seems to empathize with them for some reason .

Perhaps if I extend the fence up in the backyard to a height that they cant fly over...how high is that? 8 foot? that would be a nice big area that they could freerange in also.

I have a flock of healthy, beautiful lakenvelder chickens for sale. I have 6 hens and 1 rooster. They are all 8 months old. The hens are prolific layers of white eggs. I usually get 4-6 eggs a day from them. They are a small breed so they don't eat very much. I have been using them to breed, but I just have too many chickens right now. I am NPIP Certified. NPIP # 58-1607-E. asking $90.

Hi! Since I only have 10 more days to wait until I can join in the swap - I have a question.

We're only allowed to have 6 hens where we live, but I ADORE hatching eggs and watching the chicks come out - and I love raising them! They're so much fun as babies! I'm wondering if it is allowed on the BYC swap thread to participate in the swap, but hatch the eggs out, raise them to 2 months or so and then sell them or give them away to good homes?? I won't be able to keep the chickens I raise because we already have most of our flock...but I'm still wanting the experience of hatching the eggs and raising chicks just like everyone else.

I wanted to be honest and forthcoming and specify what my intentions are, and ask if it was allowed at the same time.

If not, I just won't participate, it's totally fine.

I certainly wouldn't be doing it to make a profit - considering what we pay for the chick starter, the bedding, the grow gel, and everything else they get (they eat better than we do) we already figured we'd be losing money rather than making any, so that's not my motive.

I believe it is up to you what you do with the chicks afterwards. I plan to keep some and sell some to help maintain my addiction.
