They don't sell outstanding quality birds. The breeds definitely need work once someone gets them. I think they import what they can get their hands on and go from there. It's really up to the buyer to work the breeds to the standard or their liking. Like the floppy combs on the Legbar roosters. Then again it stinks to pay all that money for birds to find some have defects.

Funny I was going to go through Jon Grice in CA but wanted to go through GFF because I was a little unsure after speaking with him. He's a really lovely fellow but was sort of contradictory in some of the things that he mentioned when we talked. He also agreed to hold a quad for me until Monday, and when I said that I was unsure and had to talk to DH but would let him know by Sunday, this was a Friday, he almost immediately listed it on RBA. Jenny finally answered my email but only after CJ won the auction for me I think. Personally I think overcharging for shipping is just sort of silly. If you want to charge more put it in the price of your item not in the shipping. I MIGHT charge an extra 1-2$ when I ship something because of postage gas etc but that was also before I made my business really official and now I just write of mileage and business supplies. I just seems steep to me.

It is steep. Especially when you think most the birds they are shipping are around 6 weeks old or less. They don't weigh that much. I shipped 9 4-week olds and it was less then $40 to ship them. With box and stuff, maybe around $55.

I have a 2 year old, a 14 year old a full working farm here in Florida that I manage ALL the customer emails for as well feed orders, feed mixing and turn out and put up with my husband and I stay on top of emails. Using a child as an excuse is bad juju sorry.

Exactly !! I have 5 kids. 10 month old, 3, 10,12, 14. 200 plus birds, and other assorted animals, work from home, take care of the whole shebang as a single parent !!! And still have shop, run kids everywhere, cook, clean and time to sit here on BYC hang out with friend go to sales and shows etc...
No excuse someone can't answer an email and be polite about it.

Our egg shipping prices are increased enough to cover some packing material. But we arent talking about 40-50$ increase either. Maybe 1-2$

We include grogel in our chick boxes for free i think thats a silly thing to charge for. We live on an island and on the north end. We have to cross a draw bridge canal to get to the PO. I plan our drop offs with other errands so it is never a wasted drive for us.

I can let you know how my experience with Jon was next week. I have 2 bresse trios coming from him next week. So far it has been a way better experience then GFF. Not stilling up for him but he sells several sets of bresse so it might have been other birds.

Hopefully you have better luck with GFF then I did. Im kinda starting to think maybe they don't have the isbars they sold me. They sent my bresse right away but said they ran out of boxes and would send the isbars the next week. That was at least 3 weeks ago. CPL got her bresse right away. So hopefully you will get yours right away too.

Oh speaking of shipping

incase you didnt know this

if you Click n Ship (pay postage at home and print shipping label) is will save you a BUNDLE!!!

Chick boxes from horizon take 4-6 days to get here to FL and have been longer than that ever. Those are our large orders for re-sell (we are a distributor)

Oh that would have been a PayPal dispute already for me. No communication and you owe me birds. Sorry but no. I work hard for my money and will not allow a company just to hang onto until they feel ready to ship or communicate. That's ridiculous. You might want to seriously think about a claim before it is too late to do so.

Hi,
I have been researching about shipping chicks, and cannot seem to get a straight answer. Do you need to be npip to ship day olds or older birds? When you ship does the po even ask for npip papers? Thanks.
