But do watch for the raw spot, chickens are brutal. If you have it, I'd give the spot a spray of BluKote in the morning.

Well I have some youngsters that have been outside in my coop for a few weeks now. There were three chickens out there all ready. 2 kentucky spec roos, they keep to them selves, and 1 7 month old silkie roo. At first the 3 existing stayed to themselves and the youngster stayed to themselves, but every night I would have to go out and pick up all the youngsters and put them in the coop. Well starting a week or so ago i started finding my silkie roo was not going in the coop with the speks, but was staying with the youngsters. I find him with his wings all spread out and at least 4 youngsters under him and everyone else gathered around. I swear he's going broody!!

I have to put him in the coop first or the youngsters will jump back out to go snuggle with him.

I think ALL silkies have the mothering gene. I was missing a 4 week old mini rex rabbit this fall and found him under my white silkie roo. I guess with all the fluff the bunny was content.

So cute! I have a huge brahma/ameraucana that is that way with the chicks. At night they all ignore their mother and snuggle under him. Normally one is sleeping on his back too. I sorta feel embarrassed for him but I am so happy he isn't trying to peck them to death like a lot of roosters would.

You need to take a picture for us at the very least but isn't there a broody picture contest going on right now?
