yes drastic swings in humidity can effect the membrane even if no external pips yet. Not as quickly as ones with pips, but it can.

eggs can hatch upright in turners, most dont do it because the mess you have to clean off the turners later. We have set chicken eggs upright in egg cartons to hatch before.

on the subject of shipping regulations.

I propose that in order to swap people should have their state listed for their location so that we can catch if there will be a problem shipping to them.
I didn't have mine listed, so no one knew to tell me that shipping to Virginia was a problem. and I had no idea!

now I am looking at having to forfeit out of several swaps and am bummed. But I certainly don't want to get anyone in trouble.
You dont have to forfeit, its SUPER simple for us to get the permit for VA to send things to you. As swappers and shippers of eggs/lives we should ALL be willing to take the extra time to conform to the needs and requirements.

yep i am thrilled to have been suckered into this swap and lead down the path of hatching and enablers lol. The sharing and real sense of caring that others get something they are pining for is great. I like the rules that keep everyone honest and swapping.

side note ...we have a few dewlap buff toulouse 2012 juveniles (2 ganders and 2 or 3 geese) who didnt make the cut for the breeding group. GREAT birds, strong, healthy, forage well, easy keepers. Likely to grow out more over the next year and half. I am guessing pet quality across the board, but 1 or 2 might surprise down the road. We have been bad mouthed for this, but since we are a business they need to go. We dont keep and feed animals that arent in breeding groups/pairs ect. So anyways....they are available if anyone wants some super heavy very calm geese who will chat your ear off. They are priced low (only to re-coop the shipping costs we have in them)

Really? Someone gave you a hard time about selling off what are, essentially, your breeding culls? That's a little ridiculous. Unless you were trying to pass them off as your prime breeding stock which, having visited your site (lovely site, btw!), I know full well you don't.

Pysankigirl, listing locations makes sense for the future (and I sure didn't know till recently that VA had stricter regs than most states!) but don't forfeit yet! Who do you have eggs coming from?

Quote: yeah we have listed them as the Beta flock, our none (exhibition) breeding flock of dewlaps. they SUPER SWEET and well worth having as pets,

it's ok though these big lugs will find a great pet home.

thanks on our site.I need sit for like 12 hour straight and work on it

It is harder for some of us than others. You still have to be AI tested either way. In Michigan, that is VERY EXPENSIVE since we are not under grant. While I know my birds don't have AI, I would have to pay a vet to come and test every single bird once I get mine going again. I'd have to pay the vet fee, fee for them to collect samples from every bird, and then the fee for the testing itself. It is actually very cost prohibitive here. Until I can actually make money at chickens, I won't be able to ship to VA, but that's just Michigan...

and I certainly realize that...seriously not worth it for 6 lousy eggs!

I am hoping to create a list for Virginia swappers of people who are willing to do the paperwork to send to us.
if you are, or are willing to be in the near futere, please PM me and I will add you to the list. and when people show up on the swap from virginia, I can send the list to them!
