What are you sprouting for that color? I do wheat and oats with a little BOSS. It is much greener.

I have looked into getting mereks from flemings, but it is frustrating for me that they don't sell like 100 dose kits. I know you can break up the big kit but I would need to break 1000 doses like 50 times for the amount of chicks I hatch. Even then I would be wasting a lot. If it wasn't $30 a shipment, I would do it. I have posted on CL asking people if they vaccinate, if they would do my chicks for a fee, or if people would like to split doses with me to make it work.

We can chat about sharing a shipment

I looked at jeffers. It says only day olds. It also comes in a 1,000 dose bottle, but you have to rehydrate, so it has to be disposed of after one use. Is there nothing out there for adults/juvies? Also, I'd rather buy smaller dose bottles so there's less waste (of money AND biohazrardous waste!). Also, one vaccine says to burn the waste... is that acceptable for all of the live vaccines? I'm sorry for all of the questions, but my brain gear are churning and I want to get everything done before we move, lol.

I talked to our state veterinarian about this. He says that every single chick that hatches should be vaccinated for Maerks disease. He said that is the most rampant disease that can be easily prevented. Newcastle/bronchitis can be vaccinated simply by putting it in their water. So, he said that was a very simple one and well worth it.

Ha! Splitting sounds like an awesome idea. I have no problem vaccinating others' birds. I feel comfortable with my training to give shots, meds and do proper calculations, since I was top in the class in that regard, lol. I wonder if I could get enough interest around here. Then I'd have to travel, since I'm NOT comfortable with people bringing swarms of possibly bio-hazardous fowl to my property, lol. I just spent an hour scrubbing and bleaching a waterer and feeder, then the entire kitchen, and that was just to move those things to my chicks from the main flock! I can't imagine having a swarm of other birds here and the hassles of disinfecting everything, lol.

Good golly was today ever an eventful day. Four kids all morning, then took the boys to my brother after watching his kids, went to the house for the inspection, got G's watch battery change, learned that the other jewelery store was robbed just before I went, then ate so much dinner at mom's house that I thought I swallowed a boulder. All while waiting to hear about his job! Talk about having fivethousand things on the mind at once! At least the dealership took him to work and picked him up while the car was inspected so that was one less thing to worry about for me. Whew! Bedtime for the old fart! I hope everyone gets their chickens in great shape!

Ayeupchuck, any news on the bresse? :(

So I didn't want to damper spirits yesterday since everyone seemed to be in such a great mood. Some beautiful birds posted! I had a long tough one yesterday.

So I had to have one of the two cockerels euthanized. He's being sent for necropsy at OSU. They'll be testing for Newcastle and Coryza and some other things.

I had blood drawn and cultures taken from a pullet. They are going to the state lab and are being tested for MS, MG and AI. I'll let y'all know what the results come back as.

Fingers crossed its something minor though after speaking to an avian pathologist for over an hour I've prepared myself for the worst. She also mentioned that if ta something major that I should be prepared for the state to show up and confiscate the rest of the birds which scares me something awful.

I just can't risk putting them out anywhere near the other birds and hoping for te best. I'm really hoping that the Denagard arrives today. It's snowing as in Portland that means people freak out. :/ you'd think it'd be no big deal but an inch of snow and people act like its a blizzard. So weird.

Anyway. I'm just thankful for everything that is good in my life. I have my health and my family and you guys! And if I'm really lucky, the bresse will be fine and if not, I start over. I still have the chicks which luckily are with broody mommas in the coop. Just have to stay positive!
