I use hamster type bottles for my indoor brooders too. They instantly figure it out. I've only had one problem with them. When I move chicks out to a larger brooder with a traditional type waterer, sometimes they'll stand and die of thirst before they willingly switch over from the tube of a bottle. They just don't seem to recognize open water as a drinking source. It takes more time to convert them back and I've had to be really careful. Of course, if you use nipples in all your pens, that wouldn't be an issue.
