Good Morning Chick-Anonymous!

It is always a good omen to start the day with new chicks in the 'bator! And happy chick calls in the dining room. Wait, who am I kidding? Dining room = poultry preschool and nursery. I had friends over for dinner last night, we all ate on TV trays in the living room while the little chicklettes enjoyed the sprawling expanse of my dining room table. My brand new sportmans hums in the background. My friend is a little afraid of it. Says it will become like Hal in that movie from the '80's. "I am sorry Kristie, I cannot let you do that". That could be the beginning of the chicken Apocalypse! All my zombie chickens (aka Cornish crosses) are lurking and waiting to pounce on the first one up. Rule of the house: First one up feeds the zombies! These guys may be a little slow on the draw, but they definitely have a solid grasp of who should feed them and when (everyone and all the time). I was up late into the wee hours of the morning walking my tax guy and his kids through their first traumatic bout of pasty butt. The chick made it! Jake the turkey tom to gobbling to beat the band because his "ladies" haven't been allowed in the run yet, due to zombie feeding time delay. Do you ever wonder how this happened to your nice, calm and relatively normal life?

This made me giggle. Our livingroom turned into a game room, which is now the chick room. My oldest daughter gets on skype with her gamer friends and they always laugh at the chirping and peeping in the background. I love having them in the livingroom, eaiser to get to them, but I cannot wait until they can enjoy the outside warmth. 4 brooder boxes in the house makes for loads of "chick dust" everywhere. Not good for my allergies and I'll be sporting Pinkeye again if I am not careful.
I am enjoying a cup of coffee before I get started cleaning, watering, and feeding. Which is an everyday thing here. As soon as I clear out the 6 wk chicks, I have another batch of 4 week olds ready to go in that brooder. DH calls it the circle of crazy. The kids joke that it is musical boxes.

I'm so addicted, someone make me stop lol! There is a farm not too far away that has some really pretty birds and they sell hatching eggs. They have Buff Laced Polish (some frizzled) that are just too adorable. These are absolutely NOT on my breed list. Someone talk me out of going to get them! This is not my pic; it is property of Pastime Farms in LA.

Good morning, everybody! Yay for pipping chicks, especially blue barnies, and YAY for a new roo for kraftyladies! I'm having tea and checking the thread real quick and then it's outside for me -- what a lovely day out! And YAY for AyeUpChuck selling her "extra" house, lol!

So I got a light sussex chick on a whim but have been puzzled about it's coloring ever since. but I think I have just had an epiphany. I think it is a Basque! what do you guys think?

Yup. That is most unmistakably a basque, and probably a cute little basque boy :) Congratulations!

Profti, I was hoping to wake up to pips but they're all taking their sweet time this hatch. I loved your chicken horror movie!

Who was it who had turkeys hatch their SFHs early? I should have hit quote but I didn't and now I can't page back. Thank you for sharing your story

That was great! I'm still hopeful for my little OD egg -- hopefully we'll see by the end of the day!

Msztre, I am so totally the wrong person to try and talk someone out of a new breed

They're too pretty! I'd snatch 'em up in a heartbeat.

Okay, time to head out into honest-to-God SUNSHINE!!! Woo-hoo! Have a good day, everybody!
