I'm so glad someone pointed me to RBA. You can get birds there cheaper if you hit the deal just right. But after these chicks, I'm done for a bit. I have to grow out what I have, decide what to keep, ship out some swaps and go from there. Life will be a bit easier in 3 weeks with DH home and new pens installed.
I am sure. I can't imagine what I would do without Steve. I have tried to make coops and temporary homes and it always just turns into a mess. He is making a coop right now that I am so impressed with. It really looks like a williams-sonoma coop. We are trying to make a few decisions ourselves on what to keep and what to focus on. We have always said we were focusing on Brahmas and Orpingtons but, this past year we have gotten a ton of different breeds in. Of course I will not get rid of my SFH's they are just a wonderful breed and it is like Christmas morning when they hatch because you really never know what you are going to get.

REALLY?? Ours follow us everywhere, beg for treats and all around be in our face

Mine are dreadful. Even the two mallards I just got, they see people and try to escape through the other side of the cage they're in. Now, I have some of the most wonderful leghorns in the world... You know, the breed everyone claims is spastic and flighty? The ducks are the only animals here that won't let you anywhere near them.

buying as adults will result in less pet like ducks. Mallards and Pekins are not big on the top pet list for ducks either.

Speaking of ducks I have to go trip over some to do evening rounds andlock up

The mallards are about 2 months old and the ducks I hatched myself, except the drake. The original drake was hatched here and was only slightly less hateful than the hens. :/

Some more crazy news with my bator... the timing motor for the turner is dead. It's actually kind of funny really. At this rate, by the end of spring, my bator will have all new parts! You really have to give it credit though... when I bought it three years ago, it was from someone who had it for a few years, and they said the person THEY bought it from had had it for ten years. Nothing had ever been replaced until now... So, it has been running strong for about 16 years on the original equipment!
well, when you are done replacing all the parts you should be good to go for another 16 years
