walmart usually has the hand warmer heat packs. I dont know if FL walmarts have them in the hunting camping area though, but worth looking at

No, they do have them, but they go on sale when hunting season ends. If you don't catch them then, you gotta wait till next years hunting season. I tried.

I came a day late, and they had them on sale for 50 cents a pack gone in a few hours they said. Grrrr

Okay. This might sound like a silly question, but I hope someone knows the answer. With waterfowl, I get raising the humidity for lockdown since the mothers likely went for a swim right before. However, how does a broody hen raise the humidity when hatching? Is it just that she stops getting up from the nest and doesn't turn them and that keeps the humidity higher since they aren't exposed to dry air?

My broodies took a huge drink of water and dribbled it all down their front. I have also heard of another hen pooping right in the nest. I think their bare bellies hold humidity better than the feathers - as well as better transfer of heat. I do know they sit tight those last three days and wont get off for anything.. so maybe they just seal in the moisture from the first pips and that keeps it up high enough?
here are the LLO in their stall for the day

Well they sure look good - so very glad they made it! Love the picture of the rooster crowing - he was very glad to get out of that box!

They had several boxes of them, they only last 18 hours though? Susan $1.50 for a 3 pack of 18 hour packs . Maybe I can figure a way to insulate them to last longer

places like dicks sporting goods may also have them, bass pro, gander mountain also.
hmm that's an hour away, but maybe I will try tht

I have been going down to check on my broodies every 5 minutes this morning...poor things are so crabby with me but allowing me to grab eggs and check them...and they are having problems with shrink wrapping. I have had to help with two chicks out of 3 so far. but I just gave them the eggs a few days ago. so that might be part of the problem. I had them in the incubator for too long with no added humidity? Thank goodness they are being nice to me and not pecking me to death when I am reaching under them.

Here are the broody Barnie girls:

And here is one of the Broody Welsummers:
