Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

I know this is not what most people do, but I take them out immediately and let them fluff out in the brooder. I don't like having them bop around jostling the unhatched eggs, and the fluff gets all up into the fan motor. I usually put a wet paper towel in to compensate for any loss of humidity and so far have not had any problems. It also helps my bator not get so dirty because they are not in there long enough to poop on anything so cleanup is easier.

I do this too and none of them have been any worse for wear for taking them out right away. My first hatch I waited for three hours until they were dry and fluffed - but during that time they were gag-like in appearance due to the high humidity, heat and close quarters. Ever since I started taking out chicklets right when they hatch - it's been right as rain. This "chilled"issue hasn't occurred with any of them as of yet, and that includes the one I accidentally drenched when I was cleaning off pasty butt (don't ask).

KYTinpusher,

I should have two total swaps to date. They are the following:
11/10 post 2870 ccl from babymakes6
11/16 post 3082 cl from madam wolf

Thank you,
Dee

I will look at that later tonight, but I think I already found the problem - it's growing pains! The spreadsheet was originally set up for up to 150 swaps per WEEK, not per day :th  , so was not catching the last swaps of the week for some. I had already started expanding it, but had not finished yet. Tonight I'll be working on expanding it to track up to 500 swaps/week. Beyond that, you guys are going to be on your own because I won't be able to keep up!

I have three Blue Barred Rocks from DMRippy pipped! The last time I had these in the bator, NINE hatched, of which 6 were blue and 3 black. They are about 6 weeks old and are turning out soooo pretty, and these three are from her GS roo so I am super excited!! I'll have to post some pics of how the older ones are turning out, of the six blues I think probably 4 or 5 are cockerels, but they are really handsome! If anyone wants one, let me know, I will probably only keep one

I'm at home solo today, too many newborns to leave and the rest of my fam flew out of state to see other fam...I don't mind at all, the weather is beautiful, sun is shining and life is good. It's hard not to reminisce about past Thanksgivings...my most memorable was the 2004 holiday season. On Thanksgiving Day I was in Fallujah, and delivered a Thanksgiving meal to the ground troops who were fighting in the middle of the city (I was a Motor T/Logistics Officer). It was an honor to be able to provide that little bit of comfort to them. Definitely a Thanksgiving I will never forget.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day full of family and feasting

I would love to see the new ones too! I have not hatched any from this roo yet.... well not from BR x BBR

I'll take some pics tomorrow...of the 6 older blues I have, I'm pretty sure one is an unbarred pullet, one is an unbarred cockerel, and the other four are barred cockerels. Of the four barred cockerels, two have really nice barring already, and they are all really pretty light blue. The three GS ones I had pipped did hatch, looks like two blue and one black, and I already noticed that one of the blues is a lot darker than the others. Kinda neat.
