Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

Sorry. I've been gone for a few days because of a crisis that turned out to be a misunderstanding on my end. In the end, I misinterpreted what the APHIS people were telling me and sold all my birds except for the Silkies and Pilgrim geese because some of my chickens got the respiratory version of fowl pox. They told me that it is really dangerous especially for chicks since it affects their lungs and can have near 100% mortality in chicks. They told me to vaccinate the ones not affected yet. I misinterpreted what they said to mean that if my chicks caught it, they would all die even with a vaccination and sold all my birds to a lady for only about $1 each. Apparently, she knew that fowl pox vaccination would save them from getting the respiratory version and grabbed them up within minutes of me posting them. Well, turns out, if I vaccinate the birds not showing symptoms, they will be 100% fine. So, long story short, my Silkies will be vaccinated this week, but everyone else is gone and the lady doesn't seem interested in selling any of the birds back.

That is TERRIBLE. I am so sorry.

I think one of the best things about chickens is that you can gift friends and family with eggs and whatnot, I love that about them!! A couple of my friends are doing an online auction to raise money to fund their adoption of two young boys from Ghana, and I donated spring eggs and chicks

It felt great to be able to do that for them, just hope someone bids, lol.
Is it allowed on BYC for you to post the auction link (since it is for a good cause)? If so, please post. If not, please PM me with the link.

I will pm you. Fundraising is NOT allowed on BYC, and just want to be clear, that was not in any way a solicitation, just a personal anecdote

Thanks everyone for the condolences! I feel so bad for putting the poor chickens through so much when they were already sick! I wish I had clarified a little more before selling them to that lady... I guess this is an opportunity for me to start over again and refocus some more. Thankfully, I am still able to fulfill spring swaps since I only offered 3 spring swaps total and 2 of those were for Silkies (which I still have). From here on out, quarantine for new birds will be in full force!!! If I had just quarantined those Lavender Orps I bought on the other side of the state for a little while, I wouldn't be here right now.

I'm SO sorry to hear about this!

I know someone locally that has gorgeous heritage BOs (also has heritage RIR, NH & Plymouth Barred Rocks). He may not have eggs or chicks until spring, but I would be happy to check if you want. He's also a member here on BYC. PM me if you are interested and I can put you in touch with him.

I can't believe the person who bought them won't sell at least a few back to you!

That isn't the kind of "chicken person" I am used to dealing with. :(
