I’d give anything to turn back the clock to last week when Mom was fine & life was normal. I was so excited about my preschool classes & hatching chicks. Mom had a cold & went to bed Thurs night. Around 3:30am, my dad heard her gasping. The paramedics revived her, but the moment without O2 was too long. The brain did not have enough oxygen, and damage was done. As we waited, only basic reflexes returned. Many people came to visit. The docs recommended we say what needed to be said (final words) but I had none. How can I say Good Bye to my mom? Mom passed away Monday night while I held her hand. She was such a blessing & a major part of our lives, so I am having difficulty. If you have a moment, please say a prayer for my family.
Faraday: I'm so very sorry that you lost your Mom. I lift you and the rest of your family up to God, and pray that he will hay his hand of peace on you.
Keep them coming!Well after a late start,so far in our classroom hatch we have 23 out of 48 running around the box. Several more have pips. We gave them a little lecture before we left for the night: they are suppose to come home tomorrow so they have until 3:15 Friday to get thier fluffy butts out of those shells!
Except for one mal-position that hatched foot first they have all done really well so far.
I had that exact same problem this year! Mine starting hatching Friday morning...threw the night and finished up today! Thank goodness I can get into my classroom so spent most of Friday night and today hanging out and getting some cleaning/organizing done..LOL!I think I would go with Monday, if it were me.
I sure wish they had not decided to start the eggs on a Tuesday, it's going to be close to see if they are all ready to go home by end of the school day today. I told them next year they need to plan on starting the eggs on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. Better to come in to some hatched on a Monday morning than be stressed about some hatching on Friday night. Of course both of the teachers in their team are going to be out of town all weekend, so there is no way the chicks can stay until next Monday.
Hehe! Tried that talk with mine but they didn't listen...did yours??????Well after a late start,so far in our classroom hatch we have 23 out of 48 running around the box. Several more have pips. So sorry hear about your momI just got around to candling the eggs at my son's preschool. Two might be a little smaller for day 15, but no clears!
Here's the current dilemma: After all the planning, the school admin said that no one will be present to allow us entry over the weekend (for day 18 prep). So, do we stop turning on Fri afternoon (day 16) or Monday morning (day 19)? I think I'm going with Mon. The embryos looked smallish, so I'm guessing they won't be hatching early.
I felt bad for cancelling my last 2 classes, but most people understood. The teacher that I had helped last year (now the school's "expert") also had a death in the family. The poor preschool teacher was getting nervous b/c both of her chicken contacts were attending funerals & the chicks are due next week. On the plus side, I donated lots of extras, so I'm sure she'll get a good number. School hatches tend to be lower than I get at home.... but still worth it.
Tuesday, I'll be bringing a hen, chick, & eggs to the "in school" field trip. Can't wait to hear the questions the kids will come up with this year!
