Hatching with 2 broodies

Uh oh.... Someone save me! Those... Extra males they send? I thought I would get oh.... 3-5.... Something manageable. Yeah. They sent 9. 9 little fluffy yellow things. I can only guess.... Leghorn? Red sex link? Hubby might lock me out in the coop....

All others look great except one welsummer (pleaaase not the roo). I made sure it got some electrolyte water and am watching that one closely. Here are a couple pics. I will get more once they settle.

Ps. Anyone need a roo or two??? Lol!! I am going to give them a couple weeks to grow up some and then maybe put out an ad.

Poly Vi Sol without iron or Nutridrench (the have a specific poultry version.) Both work wonders. If you can get either I would go for the ND. Sugar water and electrolytes in the mean time.

for your little one. I hope it isn't Friday!!! Leghorn boys are a good guess, it's particularly rough to be a little guy in a breed that is an egg producer. Glad they will have your happy little home as long as you can put up with them

".. and it turned out that Princess Leia was, in fact, Luke's sister"

OMG! That is a beautiful, beautiful picture! Sorry for what? Making me jealous?

For once, I think I am going to be lost for words .. I really can't think how to put into words LM's wonderful news and this picture

yes that final egg has hatched and if it wasn't for some great advice from all the amazing people here we probably would have only had 5 out of 7 hatch but putting those last 2 eggs under the other broodies when mommy abandoned them to take care of her new babies I can proudly say all 7 eggs hatched but with sadness 1 died shortly after hatching it never even dried off !!! So once again THANK YOU from myself and the 5 Sara's and Ariel lol. Will definately post some family pics once I get a chance to get some shots

All these babies everyone are posting pics of are just adorable
Yay for all the Saras and Ariel! It's great you gave those eggs to other broodies. Did it make the others break their broodiness and did you have any trouble grafting them on to their original mama?

Yes the first of the 2 hatched on Tuesday and just popped the chick over with mom and had no issues at all this chick was with the other broody for several hours before we discovered it and the last one hatched between Tuesday evening and Wednesday evening so was with that broody for a while as well and the original mother never blinked an eye took them both and tucked them right in with the rest now remember there are 8 days between the first and last hatch so definately a mixed batch of eggs from all 3 broodies just left the older hen mother them all, figured it would be easier and safer for the littles to be separate from the whole coop of roo and others. I had given the 2 other broodies wooden eggs when I separated mommy, baby and eggs in hopes to keep them broody in case of emergency good thing I had so just took the wooden eggs out of their nest this morning and the 2 girls seems to be more active and out of their nest a bit but will let you know if this has broke their broodiness

Sadly, she/he just passed. I knew the look from the start. I did get a few drops of electrolytes into it, but I knew it was a long shot. I went down to offer her a few more drops and her breathing was much too labored. I picked her up and she just let go. My boys are sad, but they understand. We will put her up on the hill by Peep and Emily. I say her… but time will tell. Sad to lose it, but I know it comes with the territory. All others are well. I forgot how small they are!! I am almost positive the extras are in fact leghorns.

I can't take all the credit here!! I had lots of great advice from everyone here and probably a lot of luck :clap
I have to be honest, never thought the last 2 were going to make it they were pretty cold when I found that mamma had abandoned them so figured I had lost them due to the cold ! They are my miracle babies :highfive:

MistyMountain,
So sorry to hear the news. I hated to read that. I know from experience how fast we get attached to these little guys. So so sorry for your loss.

Marie
Thank you, Marie. I am just sad it was one of the breeds that I really wanted. Either way, I will be super happy with the two that I have left.
