Have you ever been mistaken for a homeless person? True story! :-)

uhmmm yes. we were at FRA in germany(airport) spicking a friend of coming from Utah. It was early in the morning and pretty much everything was closed . So we just lounged on the floor . A actually halfway famous german singer named Joy Fleming came by and almost gave us money because we looked so tired.

I honestly think people think that about me when I go into town. The boys are always dressed in clean clothes with their new jackets, but I come rolling up with unbrushed hair, dirty jeans and a wrinkly teeshirt I found in the laundry basket right before I left.

Hey, I don't have time to 'get pretty', it's just shopping.

I had a similar situation.
I was working in the yard "gardening" (hacking at the weeds).
Went inside for a drink and blue smoke was comming from the fridge!
Anyway It was dead and I needed a new one.
I went to the local appliance store and was eyeballing a good sized upgrade from my current dead one. The guy came over and asked if he could help. I said I wanted to buy this one.
I guess he thought I lived in a box because I was a mess. He said, "I think maybe you'd be happier with one of THOSE over there,(pointing to the cheap ones) you probably can't afford this one." . My jaw dropped.

I asked if he was hourly or on commission, he said, "commission, why?"
I waived over the store manager and said, "I want this fridge in my house by noon tomorrow, arrange to take away the old one, and I want that kid over there selling ovens to get the commission. You can ask this condescending moron why." as I pulled out the wad of hundreds I keep for emergencies and peeled off the $1000.00.

The wealthiest people I know could pass for homeless on most days. It's like they deliberately wear old paint-stained, wrinkled clothes! What's up with that?

Oh yeah! Some of the wealthiest people in this mcMansion-infested area look like they live under a bridge! I once went to a city council meeting wearing paint clothes, since I was, well, painting (from 7am til midnight for 4 weeks!). The fancy-shmancy developer trying to cram in too many mcMansions for the sadly out of date infrastructure (read sewer/drainage system) had his feet cut out from under him when I asked (in my paint clothes) why I was standing in a high tech room when my toilet overflows when it rains, and my neighbors can't take a shower simultaneously... I got a round of applause (I hadn't even moved in yet!) from the neighbors, the city council all turned red, the developer sat down and shut up... life was sweeeet!

The key to staying wealthy, once you've got there in the first place, is to not leak money right and left buying things you don't really need

Plus, really secure people of *any* financial bracket generally dress to please themselves, not an audience

Pat, not particularly wealthy, but living in old, paint-stained, wrinkled clothes most of the time because they are quite practical and comfy
