Hawk Attacked Head

am still keeping vigil with her. She only got a wee bit of aspirin and dribbled water. On the right there was a plug in the nostril that i dislodged. But the panting worries me.... I assume she needs occasional water to keep mouth moist but do not know if she has aspirated blood. :hit

Thanks for the advice to bring her in. Her temp seems to have dropped considerably

See if you can dissolve the rest of that asprin in water, get her to drink it for the pain. The breathing from the mouth could be shock. She needs to rest & yes you're right about dehydration, try some Nutri Drench (vitamins/electrolytes) or gatorade (electrolytes).

Just about roosting time. Hawk was still there. Bloody head. Slight gaping and repeated tongue and beak gestures like trying to spit something out of mouth or maybe something in throat or trachea possibly blood. Eye on 1 side closed and head bloody.View attachment 1301779 View attachment 1301781 View attachment 1301782 View attachment 1301783
Also lost flight feathers on 1 side.
Do I let her roost and clean up in the morning?
I put her up in her spot and some water and BOSS.
What a brave and sweet little lady. So sad praying for you both.

:) Missy is voluntarily drinking water and chatting with me in chicken talk. She's still having gaping and tried but could not pick up food. Her eye still swollen shut and she avoids the damp cloth. Poops normal. Moving around some. Crop not completly empty yet so we will rest a bit longer. Then we'll have mash and eggs for breakfast.

Shock is the first thing to get thru...great that she's drinking water.
Maybe mix up some soaked, to a watery stage, feed?

She apparently has significant jaw damage. Perhaps ripped inside lower jaw by talon or beak hook - it appears peeled along the inside edges. It may also be broken or dislocated as she can't seem to close it all the way.

OyVey. That doesn't sound good, not sure that will resolve without avian vet attention.

fingers crossed.
for now most everything she puts he beak into falls back out. Am pretty sure she got at least some of the water though. ..she only pooped once over night but 6 or 7 this am so far.
