Could be they are not even eyeballing your chickens in particular. Hawks sit in the trees near my chickens just about every day. They are looking for mice and voles or maybe just resting. Not only is it illegal, it's just plain wrong to shoot something just for existing.I scare hawks off. I have a netted run and free range if i'm out in the yard with them. I catch them eyeballing form a tree every now and then. They don't come back most of the time. If i scare the off the third time thats SSS.
I Agree. I have not had to shoot one as i have a hawk net and they spook off when i fuss at them and don't hangout. A persistent predator of any kind will not last long in my yard.Could be they are not even eyeballing your chickens in particular. Hawks sit in the trees near my chickens just about every day.
