Fresh batteries in the camera, sorta safer than normal shoes (well....at least not wearing my sandals), 3 little boys who are so hyped up and ready.....we are gonna go find some snakes (I hope). so far this year is starting off slow and we have only seen one black snake (and she is a regular, every year). So we are going to look for them. We are totally fascinated by any little creepy crawlies so not just looking for snakes. Salamanders, snails, lizards, spiders, whatever, are welcome to cross our paths today!!!!

Wish us luck!!!!!!!

Good luck!

My children were fascinated by anything creepy or slithery, we still have two pet snakes (Corn snake and Royal Python) and a tarantula (Mexican Beauty).

It is great to take every opportuity to teach your children about the world around them, and show them not to be frightened but to have a healthy respect for all living things... well done you

Sounds like a fun day. Good luck finding them. We have had more snakes than I can ever remember here this year. It's so interesting to see all the different colors. Hope you all have fun.

Thanks guys!!!!

I love almost anything outdoors anyway and especially with my boys....teaching, and yes, learning, too.

We didn't find a single snake or even a trace of one. We turned over enough logs and rocks to kill a person, climbed the steepest hills, got our feet wet.....and JUST got home at 8:30. Kids are taking QUICK showers and worn out.

We just had an awesome day!!! Can't wait for next week to be over (it is the last week of school) and we can do stuff like this all the time!!! Here are a few pics of some of the neat stuff we did see.

Honey bees!!! (I think so anyway, I am not a bee expert) HUNDREDS of them swarming into a wall at an old abandoned house we love to explore.

An adorable little frog I found under a rotten log.

Some-one's house. Not sure who, no one was home. This was also under a rotten log.

I found a ton of these little caterpillars under logs.

An arrowhead!!! Oh how cool!!! Haven't found one in years. It is not a very well made one, but this is the first one my kids have ever seen not in a shop or museum!!!

So, that was our day!!!

What an awesome day! I've never found an arrowhead in all my 43 years. Those are some great pics and would be really fun to put into a scrapbook so that you can remember those times when your boys were young and you went critcher hunting together.

You've got bigger ones than I do!

I was pretty excited about the arrowhead. I used to find quite a few. I always get excited, even when I just find flakes and chips. My ancestors were the Creek Indians from this area and I always imagine some of them could have touched those very pieces.

Yes, I need to do SOMETHING with all the pics of our outings. Right now they are all just stored on discs and scattered out.

LOL...as for "bigger ones" I was hoping all day to find a really big rattlesnake. I made the kids stand back until I knew an area was safe though.

I hate snakes, but I knew your tale of the day would be great!!! Love how the frog blends in with the log! That arrowhead is actually very nice. Most are very crude and hard to tell what they are after erosion. So that one is in remarkably good shape.

Very cool arrowhead! Im thinking about going herping tomorrow. There is a great place down at the river by my grandma's, if I can get someone to go with me. I found a dead gopher snake in the driveway and my brother saw a live one in the road the other day, so they're starting to show themselves.
