Heartbroken :( Something got 7 of my girls

I'm so sorry for your loss

I am so sorry for your loss. They are like kids to us. It was hard when we lost our girls--out of 12, one survivor. The first two to a coyote or who knows what, the next to prolapse, the next to a raccoon, and the last 7 to coyotes with one we found half dead 6 days later in the dead of cold. When you get to know each of them individually, it is tough. People here understand what it means to have them as pets, and what it means to lose them. Those who don't, will never understand. I know those people as well. So feel free to say how you feel here amongst friends.

Sadly, it happens. I too know how devastating it is. I lost my favorite girl last week to a fox. All you can do is learn from it to keep them safer. It doesn't make the loss easier though.

I'm so sorry.

So sorry to hear you've lost some of your chickens. I just lost my first this past week, Goldie, was just a year old and my best layer. Coon got her I guess. So sad to see her laying mangled in her nest. I can't imagine the poor things "cooped" up in their coop with no escape and a predator in there. I have the coop close to the house and didn't hear a thing! I just noticed yesterday another one of mine has a 2" laceration on her side so she is in the basement bathroom getting TLC (would you say I've already turned into a chicken lady?!) I have guilty feelings too...didn't think a 3" hole would be big enough for a coon or other predator. Hugs and kisses to ya.

So sorry for your loss. Don't be hard on yourself, I agree it sounds like someone was snooping around where they shouldn't have been. Doesn't make the loss any easier though, I know.

A couple of years back I lost several to a coon... It was so sad, and you can just feel their pain.. Good luck to you when you get your new chicks!!

We just lost one of our week old chicks...not sure of cause...but very hard! Losing a pet no matter what kind or what size is so hard....doesn't matter when you love them! Sounds like you did everything you could....last year my brother thought he had taken every precaution...while we were out of town for our grandmother's funeral, his dogs got loose and killed 9 of their 13 chickens! Good luck with finding new chicks....as none can replace the ones you loved and lost! Be well and God Bless...
