Heat Stroke, Lethargic, Possible Crop Issue...

Wait, so he was without access to shade (that he could find in his blind state)? Yes, perhaps the heat pushed him over the edge. However, it seems he has some other issue(s), possibly age related. Will he eat eggs or anything? Raw egg yolk is a favorite treat (plus nutritious and hydrating) for some of my hens. Can you offer him that?

Oh, wait, his crop isn’t emptying, right? Perhaps a blocked crop prevented fluids from keeping him hydrated during the heat. I don’t think I can offer much more advice, but wish you the best and hope you can just try to comfort your rooster. If he is blind and sick, he may be frightened and might find a little comfort in your presence.

How long has his face been purple?

He won't actively eat anything. I feel I would need to clear out his crop of the stuff that's in it now to give him anything. And even then, I would have to force the tube down in his crop to give it to him. He seems to have mucus in his beak as well...

I'm not sure what would be blocking his crop since he hasn't had any solid food in about two days.

You’d be surprised. Sometimes I’m wrong sometimes I like to BE wrong. Just my gut. Maybe you don’t want to be alone. Dunno. My experience with people who prank keep the loop going as if the advice goes in one ear and out the other. Just something’s off. And yes people prank us. So I’ll just leave it at that.

I promise you that is not my intention. My beloved pet of more than 10 years is ill and I'm trying to find answers and some comfort in my situation. I don't know what would be "off".

Aloha Ryudai,
I'm sorry to hear about your pet Roo. He sounds really sick and with a bleak outcome. Did he pass, how are you holding up? I found your thread looking for answers of my own for my young heat exhausted hens. Our Hawaiian heat and humidity can be brutal with the changing weather patterns and loss of our trades. I think you stay Oahu, I stay Kauai. You sound like a good home and a good dad for keeping one roostah for so many years. No let the humbug scare you away. A hui hou, aloha, L.

I just lost one of my girls last night. Pretty little silly Lilly, a 7 mo Buff Orp, a super fun and easy going beauty. The temps were in the mid to high 80's but the humidity was hard to counter with our light trades. I cleaned up their diet, doubled my water efforts, soaked their run, let them wander the yard where I run well water under our shady orange tree (it will puddle and the girls can cool their feet and look for bugs and drink). I put her in the big tub (under the shady tree) with cool water and ran cool water under her neck feathers and syringed water in her mouth. this eve I put a fan directed at her on her roost and ran to the store to get her pedialyte. When I got back (15 min) I scooped her up to cool her in my kitchen sink and syringe pedialyte but she died in my arms. My hens have struggled off and on with the heat/humidity, always recovering with the tricks I learned from you folks. This time my healthy little girl just did a 3 day downhill slide starting with a young broody alfa and not being allowed to lay (in the 2 triple sized boxes) she stressed and from then, she just kept getting worse. A horrible reality. Sept 6 2018 071.jpg Silly Lilly will be missed greatly <3
