I'm getting new chicks this spring. I'm wondering what heating options there are out there. I've used a heating pad put on the wall of the bin with my rooster when I hatched him as he was the sole survivor of the eggs so I didn't need much heat. Now I'm getting 6 chicks so a heating pad on the bin wall isn't ideal and plus it is a wood bin. I do have a red light heating lamp although it doesn't produce much heat. You can only feel it if you are within a foot of the bulb. If anyone has any bulbs/heat lamps that they recommend that would be great. I'm open to anything but the only thing I would note is that my bin is a wood bin

For my next batch of chicks I bought a Rentacoop chick heater, where they can go under it if they need heat.

I didn't go with the bulb because of the fire hazard and high electrical bills.
The heater that I bought will be more affordable in the long run. It only uses 15 watts of electricity.
We have solar so the electric bill won't be too bad especially as they will be arriving in the spring time but I definitely see your point.
