Heating pad???

Does anyone use, or have you tried using a heating pad placed under the waterer to keep it from freezing? A friend recommended it. What is your experience with this method?

Dangerours. That much weight (with sharp edges) on a heating element and the proximity to water could easily cause a short and fire. During college we had an electric blanket that was just piled up on the end of a bed but turned on short out in the middle of the night and catch on fire. It torched the dorm room and could have easily burnt the entire house down if not for fast actions of some friends. I would not do it.
