I know!! :hmm :( I wish I had some. am really trying. have to get them on device. she seems perfectly fine now, except for the earlobes. have hayfever today so can't be bothered to chase her around the yard to try and catch her to take the pics. *sigh* she is the most complicated hen ever. full stop. amen. has been more friendly and nice to the other hens though. out of 4 hens and 4 pullets, she is the WORST. lol :he:barnie

I scanned the replies and didn’t see this mentioned, but she could have been egg bound. Is she still a laying age hen? Does she lay every day or do you not know because of other hens laying similar colored eggs. Did she also squat and walk around bow legged like? I know that a limp or bow legged squat is a sign of being egg bound. It’s possible that she passed it on her own.

I’ve been instructed to give the birds a pinch of Epsom salts in their water and to give the egg bound bird a warm bath for 20 minutes in Epsom salts water. It’s a laxative and muscle relaxer and increases motility to help them pass the egg. It usually helps with a day or two if that’s what it is.

Did you have any abnormally large eggs of late? Just my .02¢

You may be on to something here...She is the best layer at one and a half years of age is right in her prime, she has layed 8 eggs over 9 days. They are rather large and pink. She is also a super layer so prone to that sought of thing. She is fine and laying at the moment and acting normally. Thanks for the idea!!!! :thumbsup

No problem. I saw an episode of Becky’s Homestead on YouTube that showed an actual eggbound hen with remedies. Maybe search for it and see if it looks similar?

If she were egg bound she would NOT be laying eggs and it she were egg bound for DAYS...she would be dead already.
Yeah, possibly, but they can go a couple of days with a bound egg and then pass it, and have another egg bound afterwards and then pass it. The OP mentioned that she has had some large egg laying issues in the past, and she did not specify in this post anywhere that I saw that this bird was definitely still laying. The reason is that no one else that I saw even brought it up as a possibility.

IF she was definitely laying the whole time, then no she isn’t egg bound, but I didn’t see anywhere in this thread (and I may have missed it) that the OP stated that this bird was definitely laying the entire time. Just my .02¢, which is what the OP asked for. Have a good night! ;-)
