Hi there. I have been reading your posts and your problem is indentical to mine. About 4 weeks ago, the same thing happened to my Black Australop. It has been a long journey. I cared for her day in and day out cleaning, applying Prepartion H, pushing her vent back in. It is very time consuming but I had to do it being as though all of my animals are pets. After 2 weeks being inside my home in a bathroom and inside a large dog kennel and in the dark, she finally was "healed" or at least I thought. I let her loose back in the flock. Well guess what happened, the next day? Prolapsed vent AGAIN!! I worked with her AGAIN. I was determined that she would be healed. Today is week 4 and it's still the same. It goes back in while she is inside but when I let her back out, she tries to lay an egg and it's out again. I know that you love your chickens and I know that they are pets but there is only so much we can do. I have read that some people have had this problem with their chickens about 2 weeks. For me it's been 4 weeks. I am sad to say but now I am thinking about culling her. I DO NOT want to do that but I'm not sure how much longer this will continue. She is in no pain. She eats, drinks, poops and everything else but I wonder what kind of life is this for her being inside all the time in a dark area, so that she can't lay an egg in fear of her venting popping out again. I could just cry at the thought of culling her but I'm at my rope's end. I have never culled any of my chickens and I really don't want to. I know that some chickens are able to recover from a prolapsed vent and are fine but some aren't. I think that mine will never recover and I'm sad at the thought. If she is not better in another week, then I will have no choice. That will be 5 weeks. I think that I have done my best in trying to help her. I don't know what else to do. Sorry for your chicken. I hope that she fully recovers. Keep us posted.
