Wow, I am soo sorry for your ordeal as well.
I feel the same as you. All my chickens are my pets. I have never culled any chicken before either. Daisy is the same way, she eats and drinks, etc. But she cannot be happy in the dark. I just wish it would stay in. It comes back out almost right away now. It seems like as soon as I get it back in, I go to put her back in her dark place and she panics and pushes it back out. Almost immediately.
I just wish I could forsee the future. If it is not going to stay in, then I feel like I am just punishing her by keeping her in the dark like I am. I am starting to wonder if I am doing this more for me than for her. I can't bear the thought of not seeing her every day. This is such a hard dilema.
I am not ready to give up yet. But if it is still like this in another couple weeks, then I will be having to make the same decision as you. I am going to try sugar paste in a bit, I have heard it may work in reducing the swelling. I will let you know how it goes.
