Hello from Colorado!!

I am very new to chickens, well truthfully anything farm related. last year was my first try at chickens and they are basically doing well. I have two silkies and silkie/easter egger. they do well for the weather here in colorado springs. I do bring them in when it drops below 22. they are not the best layers I know but the fluffiness amuses me. I you ever want to talk chicken I am always up for meeting fellow chickeners.

Welcome! You will find very friendly and "chicken saavy" people here.....newbies and experienced alike. No question is dumb and you'll get awesome advice.
Read the forums and join a thread.....knowledge is power, and as a relatively new chicken raiser myself, I am very confident....so much so that I am hatching new babies next week!!

Good Evening all. Just a quick hello as I reconnect with BYC. I am pleased with my girls as they are averaging 25 eggs a day from 32 hens. Some are senior girls but I don't have the heart to do anything but let them have a nice retirement. Enjoy the snow everyone. It's shaping up to be a very water challenged summer.

Hi from eastern Colorado Springs (also called Falcon)!

We just have 6 hens at the moment, but are starting a small greenhouse permaculture & aquaponics farm in the Black Forest. We'll be getting quite a few more hens once that's rolling...

Welcome!!!
We live on the "other side" of Pike's Peak.
We get colder than you do, but not quite as warm.
With our last group of ladies, we had a well insulated coop with a heater for the water, but not heat in the coop. The ladies did great and laid all winter.
Main thing is the summer is water available at all times and shade.

Be sure to post some pics!!!

Since I'm new here can I ask a question I can't find the answer to on the mobile site?
I exchanged a PM with one of our Colorado members. I received a notice that I'm only allowed 2 PMs a day. So I waited until this morning to send my response to the last message, including my email address so we wouldn't exceed our PMs again. It still says I have exceeded my limit. My help on this would be greatly appreciated. I looked under frequently asked questions and retread the rules but find nothing about a 2 PM limit.
Cheers everyone and have a great day.

I think they place some restrictions on new users who have made less than a certain number of posts (think it's 25), probably in an effort to eliminate spammers
