G'day. I am an artist from Qld. I have worked as a vet nurse and photographer in the past. I live in suburbia on a 3/4 acre block with my husband. At the moment I have a roo, 8 hens and 2 newly hatched chicks. They are a mixed flock but predominantly Sussex. I have been keeping chooks for about 8 or 9 years I guess.
I also have one remaining Cotournix Quail hen and some fertilised eggs in the incubator. I keep chooks and quail for eggs.
Ruthie my Westie(West Highland Terrier) is my constant supervisor. I usually grow a herbs, a few veggies and leafy greens through the cooler months, but didn't get a crop in this year. We share our garden with many native birds, possums, bats, lizards and unfortunately some pretty dangerous snakes.
My husband is an aviation nut and has a STOL (short take off & landing) aircraft in build. I think things may change once that is off the ground!
I am excited to explore and get to know some of you and have been watching as a guest for some time.
Thanks for having me.

Thanks for having me and for the nice compliment about my photo. I am trying to find my way, but have to leave this for now. It has already taken me ages to get this far as I am not tech savvy.

You have a very nice flock!

Do the chickens go after the snakes?
I have never seen them in that situation. Other birds raise the alarm sometimes when a snake is around , and my flock just go onto high alert. I have never found a snake pecked to death.
I think a mother hen would possibly would and a braver Rooster than mine might also.
