Hello N. Carolina!!!

I'll be at the show next weekend don't know if i'll show or not but will be there been busy not had no time to get the chickens ready.

Is anyone here in NC interested in "showgirl" chickens? If so, contact me so we can talk.

Thanks,
Cresty

Hello from Richlands, NC. I am just getting started on my poulty journey. Any advice on where to get just a few chicks somewhat locally without having to purchase dozens from a hatchery?

Crissy,
Most of the local feed stores have chicks right now or will be ordering soon... sometimes they will have several customers wanting only a few chicks each and combine those into a larger order... if they aren't going to get chicks they probably can tell you the names of some of the locals who sell them... gotta love small towns! I live near Wilmington and have RIR's and guineas... if you have the time there is a place in Wallace (Stockyard) where lots of people bring their chicks and other critters to sell on Thursdays and Saturdays. I hope the info helps!

Chrissy ~ I am not familiar with where Richlands is. Are you anywhere near Winston Salem? I'll be bringing some chicks to the show and I think some of my friends have mentioned bringing some as well. That's on the 31rst.

(I won't have day olds, though by that point and most of what I have will be banties ranging in age from a few days to over a month old.)

Richlands is out by Jacksonville/Wilmington. Winston-Salem is about five hours from me. I thought about going to the show, just to check out all the different birds, but dh said no. He said he can deal with building me a coop, listening to me talk about chickens nonstop, visiting all the feed stores in the area, but when it comes to driving across the state, he put down his foot.
I caved and ordered a dozen chicks from Ideal. They should be here around the 11th of April.

Chrissy ~ there really wasn't a ton there set up for sale compared to Salisbury was so it's probably a good thing. Most of the ones I did see were small bantams, though and more were sold in pairs, trios, etc.

Hope you find what you're looking for!

Let's see if I can join this flock, and kackle with the rest of you.

My name is Rhayden, is a name I use on the computer, no ofense people but you never know who you are talking to, besides I hate my actual name. I live near Chalotte NC. I have just started the show ring with chickens. I was in the show ring with my English Bulldog many moons ago, but there is too much poltics invovled in that so I would try this. So far I have found it is fun.
I have a BLUE AMERICANA or is is spelled AMERACANA I have seen it spelled both ways on this side of the sea. She is a hen and has so far got Best Variety the first time she had to others agianst her and then the second time she had 4 against her and there was 15 different kinds of Americanas if there was 16 I would of got a trophy RRRRRR. maybe next time.
I would like to get a tophy with a chicken on it, for BEST BREED I am not sure what I am doing wrong yet, you can't talk to the judges and I don't really want the judges to know which chicken is mine, so I guess I just have to keep trying. just fustrating. know what I mean??

Hey Rhayden, I'm from near Charlotte too. I know what you mean by "you never know who you are talking to" Have met some really, ah, how do you say, "interesting" people on the net.

I've got 3 barred Rocks. Started with 8. Lost one the first night when they were 4 weeks old, passed off 3 Roos to someone else and for some reason lost another one tonight at 8 weeks. No idea. I also have 3 RIR's and 5 Black sex-links.

I'm new to chickens and trying to find my way as we go. I'm in the process of building a couple of tractors in addition to the main coop.

Hi everyone!

I'm near Raleigh. I have Easter Eggers and Ameraucanas. This year I also got a couple of broilers to raise... and hopefully eat. I'm working real hard on not looking into their beady little eyes. Assuming I'm going to wimp out like I expect, does anybody know of somewhere to get a bunch of chickens "processed"?
