HELP 8 week old chick has suds coming from mouth

Sugar is an accellerent for bacteria in compost piles. Its often dumped into a compost pile to heat it up and feed the bacteria. If she's eating the compost adding sugar to her water probably isn't a good idea.

i just left her out to the grass she was saying her head she hands balence but I just can't open her mouth i'm squamish when she was walking out she did a pop completely liquid and all white could the going light disease

To look down her throat, it's not that hard, truly and it's something you really need to be able to do so no time like the present to learn. Pick her up, wrap her in a little towel, like a dish towel or whatever you have. Sit on a chair in a bright place with good light. Sit as far back as possible in the chair, and gently put her facing you, between your legs to try to hold her (assuming you're alone and have no one to hold her for you). Take one hand and using your index finger and thumb, grip her upper beak. Do the same with your other hand, gripping her lower beak. Gently (and not open too wide) open her mouth a bit and look in. I'm betting you'll see either nothing or bubbly spit.

You need to do this to eliminate as best you can the possibility that she's got something stuck in her throat. This will just make you stop worrying that she's gagging on something. If something IS stuck in there... you can try to get some cooking oil down her throat to get whatever is there to slide down. Or, if it's something she should not swallow, I'd maybe try using tweezers to get it out if it were me. I've never done this but this is what I'd see if I could get to work.

If you can't see anything in her throat, I'd go the antibiotic route as it's probably a respiratory infection. This was the advice I got from the University of Kentucky poultry experts when my chickens started having symptoms similar to yours. I bought my antibiotics at Tractor Supply for about $5 U.S. dollars. I used Duramycin-10 antibiotics (tetracycline) but other antibiotics work too.

I don't know what to tell you about the white runny poo. So many poos that look horrible are normal so I can't tell without a picture. I use this web site a lot to see if what I'm seeing is normal or not. It might help you.

Hope this helps,

hi I hope she is still doing better. I have a couple of tips if you are interested. The vet gave me some tablets to feed my fully grown buff orpington. She is big and heavy and hates pills. To open her mouth I sat her on my lap facing right. With my LEFT arm I held her wings firmly and with my LEFT hand I put my fore finger and thumb round the back of her head. Finger on the left and thumb on the night and resting the back of her head in my palm I just pressed the top of my finger into the side of her beak and held her beak open. It was amazing easy compared to other methods.
Also try raw garlic. It is very good for chickens and their health.

thanks legend and I looked at the picture of the poop tht duppytj gave me and the very white poo it says it is a sigh of kidney infection I think it's right because I was feeding the chicks layers pallets I read it's very bad for chicks kidneys I changed the feed imedetly I will try garlic

is there any cure for kindney infection what medicine or anitibouotics are there for kindey infection and what are the symptoms of kindey infection to be sure she has one she only ever had foam comming from her mouth once and that was when i presse her belly. she has white poo which i think has a bit of blood she sways her head sometimes

Okay-- she probably had a layer pellet stuck in her crop. I'm so glad you changed them to starter or grower. They're going to need additional grits ASAP. They have been overdosed on calcium and have not had enough protein, I'll warrant.

Apple cider vinegar in their water would be great to leech some of the excess calcium your chicks have been exposed to. It will also help get their crops in the proper shape.Give them some composted granite or other small stones to help get their crops in good shape.
