Help! Air cell’s too small but duckling’s still Alive trying to pip!

I must have missed a chunk of conversation! Since the subject is niacin, another thing you can use if you spot a deficiency is niacin tablets, flush effect (NOT flush free). They can be broken open and the powder into water, 100mg tablet per gallon of water I think it is. My duck had a niacin deficiency and I could not get the right B complex anywhere (I kicked myself for not having gotten it before hand), so had to use niacin tablets instead. They're readily available on amazon, and on the shelf, and corrected my ducks issues. I also use nutritional yeast on their food, which is brilliant! Another off the shelf option.

Are you looking into it to keep around in the case of deficiency or just thinking of something to supplement feed with?

I read somewhere that if you assist a hatch it’s good to give them electrolytes and other supplements for the first few days - and niacin to prevent deficiency but I’m not sure what exactly to give since what I can get here is limited. I was planning to give nutritional yeast but do I need to give anything else? I’ll also keep tablets on hand just in case! Also, the duckling is stuck to the egg shell with one tiny thing - should I cut that off and remove the shell or?

If it's just a thin little piece of umbilical cord yes you can go ahead and remove that.

Can you get nutridrench where you are? That usually perks them right up.
But don't be worried if it doesn't really eat for the first day. That's what the yolk they absorbed is for.

I left for a few hours, now I’m lost 😆
😂
For perking up fragile babies- yes
For niacin- no

Ok so since I don’t have vitamin B Complex I’ll use nutri drench and nutritional yeast as a supplement for the lack of niacin?

I just put a few drops of the nutri drench in the water usually the first day or two just to perk them up. If I have a weakling I will sometimes take straight nutri drench, just a tiny drop on my finger and touch it to the side of the bill and let it kind of nibble and swallow like WV taught me to do and it works wonders.
Just be careful not to force any liquids or it could aspirate.

I don't know what kind of feed you have access to. Purina all flock and nutrina nature-wise meat bird have enough niacin you shouldn't need to supplement but I don't know if you have that where you are. If you're using any kind of chick starter then yes you will need to supplement the niacin somehow whether you use brewers yeast or vitamin B complex.

Oh ok got it! I am using non medicated chick starter - I’ll give the duckling niacin with that. I only just realised that it’ll take two weeks for the nutri drench to come so it might not be an option anymore, for the time being I suppose I’ll see how the duckling is once it’s dried up and see if it needs anything more
