It is really easy to use, you can even mix it in a bucket or tub and dip them (this is my preferred method in the summer) then just let them dry in the warm sun. Isn't if meat how you can learn all sorts of things from a few creepy bugs, lolI have 11 not counting the chicks! So it will probably work for my flock![]()
They are beautiful! How many chickens do you have?Oh Happy Day !
The spinach and kale actually decrease calcium intake, they aren't necessarily "bad" for your flock. I also have a large garden with all sorts of goodies in it, if I'm pruning back my oregano or rosemary, that are year round in my garden, I'll chuck the discards in the run for the ladies, or collard leaves that the worms have made "undesirable " for my family, but I'm not a big treat giver. I live in Central Texas, so I completely understand the heat (94° today with a heat index of 103°. What I like to do is get their ceramic bowl, put their regular feed in there and mix with water, you can add electrolytes on occasion if you'd like (like oatmeal consistency) freeze for about 20 minutes and give it to them. They will think it's the best thing since sliced breadauntiejessie13, was wondering if i can direct a question to you, you seem very experienced with poultry, what is your take on giving the flock herbs and fruits? I recently found out that greens like spinach and kale which I regularly gave my flock was detrimental in egg production as it removes the calcium in their gut, so I stopped giving them greens altogether until Im sure of which greens to give them that are beneficial to them, i prepared a nice fridge chilled treat for them today its 96* Farenheit ( i raised them on this treat) however am reluctant to give it to them, we grow certain hardy herbs in my backyard that we use in the kitchen and always gave the hens until recently when I stopped altogether...oregano, cilantro, parsely, shredded carrots, blue berries, strawberries, watermelon.....the chilled mix helps cool them and the fruits hydrate them. What do yu think?
That’s a lot of chickens!!!thank you Farmgirl, i have about 40 chickens and few roosters, also have a small flock of tiny OEGB, plus a brooder at home with a few Rhode Island Red chicks and Starlight Chicks...CHICKENS AND HORSES YUP, THATS FOR ME!......lol
