Hi everyone i really need your help!
We hatched a chick in an incubator 3 days ago and it still cant stand. This is our 4th batch and we've never had something like this before.
It already had some difficulties getting out of its egg at first: it stuck out its beak and could open the rest. At one point part of his face was also sticking out which made air bubbles appear in its eye due to the pressure of the eggshell. I couldn't stand to watch so i cheated and helped it get oit of its egg even though i know that should never be done-yet i think it wouldn't have made it if i hadn't.
It had its eyes open at that point but it couldnt stand. It kept falling on its left side and kicking its legs to try and get up. I noticed its toes were curled inwards a little but i don't know if this makes a difference.
At the end of the first day its eyes closed (this morning i gently cleaned the eyelids with some water and a cotton swab and his eyes open slightly once in a while) .
Three days later, he still can't stand and doesnt want to eat or drink. I do give it drops of water regularly which it swallows but with much difficulty (today i also gave it some sugar water instead of normal water) but i cant get it to eat.
I spend a lot of time with it and try to hold it so its 'standing' with the support of my hand and it sometimes starts running. Its neck is also kind of wweird since its tilted to the left and he falls forward on it a lot.
My mom says its in too much pain and that's why its eyes are closed so she thinks we should cull it, but for some reason i think it might survive because for now its really fighting. Do you know if i can save him and how? Or do we need to cull it (which i really domt want to)....
Thank you for your replies

I had a hatchling just like that...i ttied for a week. The onky time it would drink was when i was holding it, the only time it ate was when i forced mush in its beak. I literally tried everything. Sadly, my little one passed. It really just depends on your ethics in animal husbandry whether to cull. If faced with the same situation again, i would. You have a failure to thrive chick and odds are, it wont make it. Imsorry if i sound callous but im just being realistic. Praying for you:hugs

I was just about to give up and thought i should cull it so i wanted to let him in the sun for a couple of minutes hoping he could enjoy something before passing. It suddenly got very active, it opened its eyes and even started walking while leaning on the side of the wall. I assumed it was from the vitamins i gave it some hours before. It looked as if he just had wry neck, which i know is curable, which gave me hope. I kept him with me for a while then put him back so he could rest a little and then later took him again to see if he could walk some more. He did and i was very proud. It then started to flap its wings and then it just stopped moving... It died right in front of me but i don't even understand how since it was doing so well...
I probably should have culled it earlier but i felt as if there was so much improvement...
Thanks for those who replied and tried to help. And sorry for making a whole story about it...

I’m sorry that it died:(. And BYC is for sharing story’s and asking for and giving advice. You tried and at least it got to die enjoying the warmth of the sun and being cared for by a kind person :)
