ETA: If the mother is a WL - it could explain why their combs are so big.. Though I am pretty sure I've read that red leaking through on the wings is a male gene.

If they both have red in their wings they are boys. There was a post not to long ago that had two chickens that took almost six months to get their hackle and saddle feathers in. They looked like hens, but turned out to be roos. Since these are not barred rocks I would say they are 100% boys.

If neither parent is a barred rock, you most definitely DO NOT have a barred rock. you have a barred mutt. color is independent of breed, though some colors are more common in some breeds than others.

Only males can have red in the shoulder - the one with the lighter head and splash on the shoulder is definitely a cockerel. The combs are very large, which would suggest the WL as the culprit for mom. There was a poster a while back who had WL/gold comet mixes and came out with a barred chick, so it's possible the one in question is a pullet UNLESS it also has red leakage on the shoulders.

Edited to add: it does look like you have red leakage on the shoulder for both. Sorry, two males. Not even close to being related to a barred rock.

Do you really have WL or something else with barring hidden? California Whites will not show barring, but they have it and if that is the case.... the mother is barred and will only pass it down to the roos

thus explaing the barring and the sexlink looking roos
